dc.description.abstract The paper presents a review of recent experimental and theoretical research on two-dimensional base flows. The main object is to illustrate the extent to which the basic properties of the flow are understood in each of the different flow regimes : subsonic periodic, subsonic non-periodic, and supersonic. The main conclusion from this study is that further work is needed throughout the whole field, but attention is drawn to those areas where the need is most urgent. en_US
