Abstract:
The wind-tunnel/flight dynamics simulator has been applied to a limited study of the dynamic response at low speeds of the Handley-Page HP 115 aircraft. Motions with six degrees of freedom were simulated. The technique provides full representation of the non-linearities in the aerodynamic force and moment contributions due to translational velocity components. Good qualitative agreement with flight test results was achieved. The amplitude damping characteristics of the Dutch roll oscillatory motion appear to be largely dependent on the translational velocities.
