International agencies 1999 Earth Observing System Reference Handbook The purpose of this Reference Handbook is to provide a broad overview of the Earth Observing System (EOS) Program to the science community and those interested in NASA's Mission to Planet Earth (MTPE). It includes a brief history of EOS from its inception, science objectives, mission elements, currently planned launch schedules, descriptions of each instrument and interdisciplinary investigation, background information on team members and investigators, international and interagency co-operative efforts and information on the EOS Data and Information System (EOSDIS). A number of figures and tables are included to enhance the reader's understanding of the EOS Program. [Taken from the abstract]. This Handbook exists online in a PDF format, so Adobe Acrobat software will be required in order to read it. Access To Space Based in the Project Formulation & Space Access Branch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center's, the Access To Space (ATS) Group, supports the development and implementation of mission concepts by identifying frequent and affordable opportunities for access to space and advocating changes that reduce the cost of access. The web site provides access to a range of information resources. The Access Mode section provides a means to research and compare various methods for getting a payload to space. The Mission Database contains information on all types of missions, in various stages of design. The three types of missions contained in the database are instruments, spacecraft, and launches. Each mission contains relevant information in areas such as orbit parameters, spacecraft/instrument characteristics, launch vehicle, ride-share opportunities, communications, and contact information. The site also contains sections on query tools, news, and links. Action Against Terrorism: Council of Europe The Council of Europe created this website to provide information on its work in the fight against terrorism after the September 11 2001 attacks. Work of the Committee of Experts in Terrorism is included as well as free access to press releases, resolutions, reports and legal documents relating to counter-terrorism. This covers a wide range of issues including security measures and terrorist funding. Documents are in pdf. Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe Launched at the Paris Airshow in June 2001, the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE)comprises of about 30 members with representation from the European Commission and stakeholders from industry, airlines, airports, service providers, regulators, research establishments and academia. ACARE's main focus is to establish and carry forward a Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) that will influence stakeholders in the planning of aeronatical research programmes with a goal of making the EU a world leader in aeronautical collaboration. The report "European Aeronautics: A Vision for 2020" and other documentation is available from the site as long as users register. There are links to stakeholders site, FAQs, contact information and event information as well as newletters which can be subscribed to by email. Aeronautical Information Service (Service de L'Information Aeronautique) Within the French General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) and the Air Navigation Directorate (DNA), the Aeronautical Information Service (SIA) is responsible for providing Aeronautical information Services for national and international air navigation. The SIA compiles the Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) under French responsibility required for airspace users and air traffic control, which includes airspace and flight route charts, approach and landing charts which are updated every 28 days and modified through AIP supplements, NOTAMs (notice to airmen) and AIC notices. General aviation products and regulatory publications are also available for sale. Aeronautics Innovation: NASA's Challenges and Opportunities NASA is a global leader in aeronautics research and development — fostering advances in aviation safety and emissions, propulsion technology, and many other areas. The agency's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) has played a vital role in the U.S. aeronautics industry. In recent years, the directorate's leaders and experts outside the agency have sought ways to speed innovative uses of ARMD's research results. But the directorate faces management challenges that make it difficult for such applications to succeed — or to occur at all. This report from the National Academies' National Research Council, offers the agency guidance on how to manage the transfer of technology to external users, as well as implement flexible personnel and financial-management practices. The report also points out problems that stem from a lack of agreement on ARMD's future direction and several years of federal budget cuts. The text is available in open book format. Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) Home Page The Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) exists to lobby for improvements to aviation infrastructure in an environmentally responsible manner. The site also gives information about the activities of the Group. Airports Council International (ACI) - Latin America and the Caribbean The Airports Council International (ACI), is the international non-profit making association of the world's airports. Its major goal is to promote co-operation among its member airports and with governmental, airline and aircraft manufacturing organisations. This is the home page of its Latin America and the Caribbean regional office. The site provides full text minutes of committee meetings and seminars, information about forthcoming events, news and links to members' home pages. Airports Council International - Pacific Region The Airports Council International (ACI), is the international non-profit making association of the world's airports. Its major goal is to promote co-operation among its member airports and with governmental, airline and aircraft manufacturing organisations. The ACI Pacific Region represents 160 Pacific Rim airports. The site gives detailed background information about the organisation, announcements and press releases, reports about current industry issues, and online newsletter in PDF format, conference paper search facility, bulletin board, forthcoming conferences and workshops, and links to member sites. There is a 'members only' area. Airports Council International : Europe The Airports Council International (ACI), is the international non-profit making association of the world's airports. Its major goal is to promote co-operation among its member airports and with governmental, airline and aircraft manufacturing organisations. This is the home page of its European regional office and detailed information about the organisation is provided. The site provides details of forthcoming events, press releases, the full text of all ACI policy papers since 1997 in HTML format, and a searchable database of members. Parts of the site are for members only. Airports Council International The Airports Council International (ACI), is the international non-profit making association of the world's airports. Its major goal is to promote co-operation among its member airports and with governmental, airline and aircraft manufacturing organisations. The site provides detailed information about the ACI and its members including links to their web sites, airport statistics by passengers, cargo and aircraft movements, the full text of media releases in HTML format, details of publications for sale and forthcoming events. Allied Command Transformation This is the web site of NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT), whose role is to assist in the transformation of NATO's armed forces. The site contains information on ACT's mission, organisation and history, contracting, events and vacancies. Amnesty International Publications This is a collection of documents from Amnesty's weekly mailings. They are organised by subject and year of publication. Subjects include Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, International organisations and Policy. AntePodium (AtP) This journal publishes material from a variety of academic sources on politico-strategic, politico-economic, and politico-cultural aspects of world affairs. There are author, subject and title indexes and book reviews. Apollo 40th Anniversary This NASA website celebrates the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the successful mission to land men on the Moon. The site covers mission highlights, the Apollo programme and history as well as events to celebrate the anniversary. There is also a link to how the missions have benefited mankind. Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) APEC is a regional vehicle for promoting open trade and practical economic cooperation among Asia Pacific economies. The latest news is available, plus details of member economies, leaders' declarations and ministerial statements. It is also possible to access the APEC business resources, publications and documents and reports. Asia-Pacific Center For Security Studies The Asia-Pacific Center For Security Studies (APSS) is based in Hawaii. It is an independent research institute and specialises in the study of security in the Asia- Pacific region. It also focuses on US foreign policy towards nations in the Asia. Its web site provides information on the aims of the centre and its current activities. It includes free access to some of its working papers, reports and newsletters, these cover regional security in the post- 99/11 era. Nations covered include: Indonesia, China, Japan, North Korea, Iraq and Taiwan. Users should note that some papers are in pdf format and therefore require access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader for use. Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics (EREA) EREA is a non-profit association comprising a number of leading european aerospace research organisations. Founded in October 1994 EREA's mission is is to provide European industry and authorities as well as governments with a cost effective high quality aeronautics technology base through joint research programmes and through the harmonised use of resources, facilities and personnel exchange. The site contains mainly descriptive information covering the Association's founding, history and development, its mission, objectives and vision, organisation and capabilities. Other sections of the site provide news and spin-offs, including brief examples of how aeronautical research disseminates technology to other sectors. Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) The aims of ASEAN are to develop the region and promote stability. This site provides information about the member countries, and ASEAN's structure and objectives. Details are given about political, security, economic and functional cooperation between member states. Information about external relations and ASEAN summits is also available. Statisctics, publications, transnational crime, legal cooperation and immigration are covered, plus employment and links to other related sites. Biological Weapons Convention: Collection of National Implementation Legislation This is an online database of national legislation relating to the implementation of the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention (BWC). The database is composed by an independent research organisation (VERTIC) who specialise in the verification and monitoring of international agreements. The database is organised alphabetically by country with references to the relevant laws and links to the full text where available. The site gives background information to the BWC and the compilation of the database. There are also links to related resources including the questionnaire used to compile the data, the final report produced by VERTIC called Time to lay down the law: national legislation to enforce the BWC and the text of the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention. Biosecurity: Limiting Terrorist Access to Deadly Pathogens This web site provides access to the full text of a paper by Jonathan B. Tucker which was published by the United States Institute for Peace in November 2003. The paper examines the potential threat of terrorist threats from biological agents and biological weapons in the wake of events of September 11, 2001. It then assesses US and international measures and legislation to prevent terrorist access to them. It should be noted that the full text is in pdf format and so requires access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader for use. Bullets for Beginners Web page on bullets and how they work. It explains the meaning of low explosives and high explosives and discusses propellants. It also looks at storage and compatibility groups, the UNO classification system, and the chemical data of ordnance fillers. The site also links to further resources including the DoD Ammunition and Explosives Safety Standards DOD 6055.9-STD. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) The Center for Strategic and International Studies helps to develop national and international public policy. It has three main areas of focus: - new challenges to national & international security; connections with leading experts in major geographical regions; and committed to developing new methods of governance for the global age. There are links to full text documents. Center for the Study of Intelligence The Center for the Study of Intelligence (CSI) conducts research into all aspects of intelligence activities. This includes the work of the CIA, espionage, the Cold War, and spy satellites. It has full text access from 1995 onwards to its newsletter and journal, Studies in Intelligence. Some monographs are also available in full text. Chemical Propulsion Information Agency The Chemical Propulsion Information Agency (CPIA) is as the U.S clearinghouse and research centre for world wide information, data and analyses on chemical, electrical and nuclear propulsion for missile, space, and gun propulsion systems. It is operated by the Johns Hopkins University. The site provides the following resources - the full text of CPIA Bulletins in PDF format back to 1974, details of publications for purchase, products and service offered, links to other propulsion sites, the Propulsion Database, forthcoming events, Propulsion News, and technology reviews. Columbia accident investigation board report : Volume 1 The Columbia accident investigation board (CAIB) reports which constitute Volume 1 are available from the NASA Columbia website. They are available in PDF format in different resolutions (low, medium or high) and as the full-report or seperate sections. Details of how to purchase a CD-ROM of the report are also available at this site. Consultation on Airport capacity, efficiency and safety in Europe This describes a European Commission consultation process which was concluded at the end of 2005 (deadline 30 November 2005). The pages provide access to copies of the contributions received Individual ordered by type of organisations including governments, airlines / airline associations, airports / airport associations, international organisations, research and consultants, private consumers, pilots / Air Traffic Control, and Environmental groups. Cooperative Approach to Air Traffic Services The main objective of the Cooperative Approach to Air Traffic Services (CAATS) is a coordinated, cooperative European approach to Air Traffic Management (ATM) research and technical support. Although this site is still developing newsletters and documents will be available along with information on projects which will focus on safety, human factors and validation research. Best practice manuals will be produced to be used not only by EC projects but also by other interested stakeholders. A list of participants is also available. Crustal Dynamics Data Information System (CDDIS) The CDDIS supports data archiving and distribution activities for the space geodesy and geodynamics community. The main objectives of the system are to store space geodesy and geodynamics related data products in a central data bank, to maintain information about the archival of these data, and to disseminate these data and information in a timely manner to NASA investigators and cooperating institutions. The site contains an introduction to the CDDIS which includes summaries of GNSS, SLR and LLR (Satellite and Lunar Laser Ranging ), VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) and DORIS (dual-frequency Doppler system). The CDDIS archives and distributes data from these systems in a series of data sets. The CDDIS Site and Data Locator page lists maps of space geodesy site locations and data availability queries for the CDDIS data archive. A description of the structure of the CDDIS ftp archive is also available. CDDIS supports several NASA-sponsored and international scientific programmes which are described. There is also a large section of online reports and documents, as well as links to related resources and programmes. E-Mine: The Electronic Mine Information Network This organisation was founded as a result of the United Nations Secretary General's reforms. The mine-related activities of 11 different UN departments have been co-ordinated to form UNMAS. Its mission is to monitor mine-clearance programmes around the world, funded by voluntary and other means. It develops and implements policy, and sends missions to assess global mine-threat. The web site provides links to the 11 departments which form UNMAS and gives details about the service. It provides a map of the world from which documents projects and reports on individual countries can be accessed. The site also provides a standards and documents database, information on research projects, and information regarding mine clearance, awareness, stockpile destruction and victim assistance. The site is also available in French and Spanish. ECAAR (Economists Allied For Arms Reduction) The ECAAR is an independent group of US economists who conduct research on the economics of warfare. They aim to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts worldwide. The web site provides access to information on the aims of the body and its current activities. It includes access to recent newsletters and some full text working papers. These include economic analyses of specific conflicts, the economic cost of terrorism, the economics of the Iraq war 2003 and the war against terrorism and critical discussion of US defence and foreign policy economics. ERGOMAS This is the official site of the European Research Group on the Military and Society (ERGOMAS). It is made up of a group of social scientist researchers who focus on all aspects of relations between society and the military. The web site includes the purpose of the group, history of the group and current research. There are links to the full text of working group documents covering a wide range of subjects from globalisation to peace keeping. Conference information is also available. ESA Convention This site provides the full text of the Convention of the European Space Agency in HTML format. This includes the ratification dates, the preamble, articles and annexes (I - privileges and immunities, II - financial provision, III - optional programmes, IV - internationalisation of national programmes, V - industrial policy). ESA's rules and procedures are also available from the site. ESA Science : Rosetta This is part of the European Space Agency's ESA Science web site. The Rosetta pages describe the ESA misssion to catch comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014 and accompany it into the interior solar system. The site includes a mission overview, news announcements, and sections on the background science of asteroid encounters, information on the orbiter and lander, the launcher, and mission operations. The site also provides access to relevant publications including a factsheet, status reports, as well as an orbit view, images and video clips.The link below is the ESA website for additional details. http://sci.esa.int/home/rosetta/index.cfm ESRIN ESRIN is one of the four establishments of the European Space Agency (ESA) and is based in Frascati, Italy. Its main activities are centred on the acquisition, archiving and dissemination of remote sensing data from ESA and non-ESA Earth Observation missions. In particular, it is responsible for operating the ground infrastructure required for the ERS and ENVISAT satellites, and exploits the data obtained by these technologies. ESRIN is also responsible for the development and operation of the Payload Data System (PDS) for ENVISAT, which is due to be launched at the end of the century. It is also developing an Earth remote sensing user information service (Earthnet Online) and a Microgravity Database (MGDB). Eurocontrol Experimental Centre (EEC) The EEC, established in 1962, is part of Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation. The EEC is involved in research and development activities for the improvement of air traffic control systems. Primarily, this activity is carried out for Eurocontrol member states, but also, by arrangement, for the air traffic authorities of any other state. The site includes information on current projects, products and services and full text reports, notes and business plans are also available. Europa- The European Union Europa is the server for the European Union (i.e. the Parliament, the Council, the Commission, the Court of Justice, the Court of Auditors and other bodies of the European Union (EU)) The site is split into six main sections: news, activities, institutions, the EU at a glance, official documents, and information sources. 'News' provides statistics, press releases, a calendar and the official euro rates. 'Activities' provides details on many things such as culture, customs, energy, taxation, security etc. 'Institutions' gives details of the council, Parliament, Courts of Justice, committees and other agencies. 'The EU at a glance' provides information on the history of the EU, treaties, citiziens rights, travelling and more. 'Official Documents' contains the annual general report and European Council conclusions. Certain key issues are also covered on the site, including enlarging the EU, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and employment. There is a What's New page as well. The site is also available in Spanish, Danish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Finnish and Swedish. European Aeronautics : A Vision for 2020 This provides access to a European Commission report prepared by the Group of Personalities under the Chairmanship of Commissioner Philippe Busquin, issued January 2001. The report sets out a number of recommendations for fulfilling Europe's goal of better serving society's needs while becoming a global leader in the field of aeronautics. Among its conclusions, the Group stressed the need for a new Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) whose goal would be to develop and implement a strategic approach to European aeronautics research. European Aeronautics Science Network (EASN) This is a three year funded project which aims to bring the European universities with aeronautics activities into an integrated network, operating in parallel with industry and the national research establishments. EASN has a Steering Committee representing partners to oversee the activities of the network, as well as a number of Interest Groups (IGs) addressing various thematic issues. There are 10 interest areas covering Flight Physics, Aerostructures, Propulsion, Aircraft Avionics Systems and Equipment, Flight Mechanics, Integrated Design and Validation, Air Traffic Management, Airports, Human Factors, and Innovative Concepts and Scenarios. Within these areas several Interest Groups have been established for Advanced Combustion Chambers, Ageing Aircraft, Crashworthiness and Structural Impact, Emission Minimizing Flight Operations, Fault Tolerant Systems, Increased Exploitation of Composites, Manufacturing Processes and Technologies of Aero-Engines, Risk Analysis Based LCE in Aeronautics, Surface Engineering Treatments, Vortical Structures and IG Innovative Contacts and Scenarios. The central element is an open, Internet based network that will enable communication between groups and will provide access to a database. The Network Database contains Information on the university institutes with their aerospace competence profiles, companies and organisations in the aerospace supply chain, research establishments and information on national aeronautics research programmes. The web site describes the network members and provides details of each of the regional contact points. It identifies R&T areas and Interest Groups and the Universities who are engaged in research activities in these areas. The site also provides news and a list of related links. European Airport Movement Management by A-SMGCS 'EMMA'(European Airport Movement Management by A-SMGCS)is a European project which aims to become the most significant research and development contribution to an integrated air-ground system, seamlessly embedded in the overall Air Traffic Management (ATM) system. This web site provides information about the structure of the consortium, project information, links to partners and EMMA documents will become available. European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Based in Cologne, the Agency provides technical expertise to the European Union by assisting in the drafting of rules for aviation safety in various areas and providing technical input to the conclusion of relevant international agreements. In addition, the Agency has been given the power to carry out certain executive tasks related to aviation safety, such as the certification of aeronautical products and organisations involved in their design, production and maintenance. These certification activities help to ensure compliance with airworthiness and environmental protection standards. The site contains background information about the Agency, with separate sections on it's component directorates including certfication and rulemaking, as well the executive, administration and quality and standardisation functions. The site provides access to a listings of Airworthiness Directives; Certification Specifications; Current Consultations; Organisation Approvals; Notices of Proposed Amendments (NPAs) and the associated Comment Response Documents (CRDs); and Annual Programme reports. There is an archive of Rulemaking Circulars aimed at informing stakeholders of important or exceptional Rulemaking developments. Part of the mandate of EASA is to promote a high, uniform level of environmental protection for European citizens. Environmental Protection is therefore an integral part of EASA's general structure of rules and regulations which aim to mitigate the negative impacts of the civil aviation industry. The site therfore contains information on rulemaking environmental activities, certification environmental activities, an overview of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, and a discussion of aviation’s environmental challenges. The site also provides links to other organisations involved in international aviation safety as well as EU Member States' respective government departments responsible for aviation safety and National Aviation Authorities (NAAs). European Aviation Safety Agency : Enviornmental Protection Part of the mandate of EASA is to promote a high, uniform level of environmental protection for European citizens. European Civil Aviation Conference The European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) is an intergovernmental organisation, which aims to promote the continued development of a safe, efficient and sustainable European air transport system. It seeks to achieve this aim by harmonizing civil aviation policies and practices amongst its Member States; and by promoting understanding on policy matters between its Member States and other parts of the world. The site includes an About ECAC section contains background information such as history; membership; functions and organisation; and relations with other organisations. The site also describes ECAC's work programme and activities including: integration of new member states; civil aviation security; environmental issues; economics, passenger health, and aviation safety, which constitutes a major part of the technical programme. Safety related programmes include SAFA (Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft), SOI (Safety Oversight Issues), JAA-EASA Transition, and The Group of Experts on Accident Investigation (ACC). A newsletter, ECAC News, press releases, details of forthcoming events are available and the site provides online access to a number of ECAC reports and other documents. ECAC also hosts the 'NLA Forum' (New Larger Aircraft) which aims to facilitate information exchange and sharing between States administrations, international organisations, airports, airlines, research organisations and the industry on all issues relating to the accommodation of NLAs at existing airports. European Commission : Research and Technology Development Beyond 2002 : Aeronautics and Space These web pages are provided as part of the Commission's Community Research and development Information Service (CORDIS). They provide information and support for the Framework 6 RTD funding programme. This site will provide details, as they become available, of the various papers and positions emerging from the main stakeholders on the aeronautics and space activities proposed for the Sixth Framework programme. European Defence Agency (EDA) The Agency was established under a Joint Action of the Council of Ministers on 12 July, 2004. The EDA's role is to support the Member States and the Council in their effort to improve European defence capabilities for crisis-management operations under the European Security and Defence Policy. The site provides a background description of the Agency, reference and finance documents. There is also organisation information which covers its constituent Directorates responsible for Capabilities Development, Armaments Cooperation, Industry and Market, Research and Technology and Corporate Services. A major section of the site is devoted to the defence equipment market and this includes information on the Code of Conduct on Defence Procurement and Code of Best Practice in the Supply Chain. Access is also provided to an electronic bulletin board. European Security and Defence Policy This is a portal from the Council of the European Union which provides access to full text documents, information, resources and web sites related to the security and defence policy of the European Union, EU. There are legal documents, press releases, fact sheets, audiovisual galleries and web links on EU police and military operations in the Western Balkans, South Caucasus, South East Asia, Middle East, and Africa. The full text of the European Security Strategy is available along with an area on ESDP support to peace and security in Africa which provides documents, EU Council conclusions, factsheets, and details of ESDP operations and EU - Africa international relations. The capabilities section provides documents and information on European Union military cooperation, civilian crisis management and the EU's emergency and crisis response capacities. There are also details of European Union permanent military and political structures; the Political and Security Committee, the European Union Military Committee, and the European Union Military Staff; and key documents. There is also a news section which contains new stories related to the ESDP, a newsletter, and reports. The portal is available in several different languages. European Space Agency (ESA) : Integral Science and Technology Homepage The International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (Integral) is the first space observatory that can simultaneously observe objects in gamma rays, X-rays, and visible light. Its principal targets are violent explosions known as gamma-ray bursts, powerful phenomena such as supernova explosions, and regions in the Universe thought to contain black holes. This ESA Science and Technology site ficusses on the science background to the mission, the science and mission operations. The site also provides links to related publications, events, images and videos. European Space Agency (ESA) Science and Technology Home Page The European Space Agency's ESA Science web site brings together a large range of information resoruces. There are descriptions of past, present and planned missions including: Cluster II, Mars Express, SMART-1, Ulysses, Huygens, Rosetta, and SOHO. Other sections of the site bring together information on the solar system, astrophysics, fundamental physics, and payload and advanced concepts. The eduacational support area provides access to a variety of media resources including images, video clips, spacecraft 3D models, spacecraft orbits and publications. European Space Agency : Integral The International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (Integral) is the first space observatory that can simultaneously observe objects in gamma rays, X-rays, and visible light. Its principal targets are violent explosions known as gamma-ray bursts, powerful phenomena such as supernova explosions, and regions in the Universe thought to contain black holes. Integral was launched in October 2002 and is a truly international mission with the participation of all member states of ESA plus the United States, Russia, Czech Republic and Poland. European Space Agency : SMART1 Mission This website contains information about the SMART1 (Small Missions for Advanced Research and Technology) mission. A milestone of this mission will be the testing and proving of an ion drive, along with investigations for ice at the south Lunar pole. It will also test miniaturisation technology while exploring the Moon from orbit. It will be the first space probe ESA has ever sent to the Moon and it will also be the first of ESA's missions to test advanced technology needed for future scientific planetary missions. European Space Agency : Technology Transfer Programme The aims and objectives of the TTP are to provide the commercial and industrial sectors access to developments in the world of space technology. The TTP also promotes the input of technologies and products built for commercial application to application in space. The site provides a access to a range of information resources including, news, calendar of events, technology transfer success stories, and links to other internet sites. There are sections which descibe the technology transfer process and highlight the benefits, and provide an outline of the ESA programme, the technologies available, the results achieved and summarise other special intiatives. European Space Agency: Science and Technology The European Space Agency (ESA) is an international organisation composed of 14 member states. The main focus of the site is the Agency's core business and activities and these are accessed from the ESA Programmes link. These include ESA launchers, human spaceflight, science and applications. A number of the mission and programme pages include details of relevant ESA reports, some of which are available online. The site also includes details about jobs and training at ESA, links to full text publications, an image gallery, details of forthcoming conferences and press releases. European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the research and technology centre for the European Space Agency (ESA) and its core activities include space technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and product safety and has speciality laboratories and a test centre. This site gives descriptions of these core activities and the facilities available as well as covering news, events and conferences. There is also information on the ESA education programme as well as information for industry and how to go about doing business with ESA. European Union Institute for Security Studies (ISS-EU) The ISS-EU was created in July 2001 as an autonomous agency which answers to the Political and Security Committee and a Board chaired by the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy/Secretary-General of the EU Council. Its mission is to create a common European security culture, encourage strategic debate between decision makers and non official specialists, and to promote the interests of the European Union. This site provides full text publications in three areas; the Chaillot Papers which deal with current subjects relevant to the EU's security; Occassional Papers; and a quarterly newsletter which provides news on the institute and commentary on international affairs. The site is also available in French. Farnborough Air Sciences Trust "FAST" is The Farnborough Air Sciences Trust. It was formed in November 1993 to save the Farnborough's historic Main Factory Site from wholesale demolition. It seemed then that the nation and the world was about to lose an important piece of aviation heritage. Where possible, surviving historic buildings would be used thus linking the past, present and future of this world famous site. FAST were keen to promote enhancing the environmental impact of the site by careful landscaping and architectural design. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) : Office of Air Traffic Organization The Office's mission statement is "to ensure the safe, efficient operation, maintenance, and use of the air transportation system today, maximize utility of the airspace resources, and meet tomorrow's challenges to increase system safety, capacity, and productivity". The old Air Traffic Services (ATS) consisted of the Offices of Air Traffic Service, Airway Facilities Service, Air Traffic System Requirements, Office of System Capacity, and Independent Operational Test and Evaluation, integrating all core elements of the air traffic control system. Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) Founded in 1905, the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), is the world's air sports federation. It has a number of functions including: the establishment of rules for the control and certification of world aeronautical and astronautical records; devising regulations for air sporting events; and the promotion of skill, proficiency and safety in aeronautics. The web site brings together a range of information sources including news, events, mailing lists and discussion forums. Within the framework of FAI, each air sport has an International Commission which is responsible for making the rules for competitions and which generally oversees the activies of their particular air sport. Flight 2000 : Initial Program Plan This program plan was produced in 1997 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and provided a "roadmap" for operational improvements to the National Airspace System (NAS) preceding Free Flight, which began in the year 2000. The Plan involved collaborative effort from the FAA, NASA, DoD and industry (through the RTCA Free Flight Select Committee). It embodies a strategic overview of the planning process, discussing the driving forces and vision, the benefits to be gained from streamlining effort, and an outline of the operational concepts that will deliver those benefits. Free Flight Free Flight is intended to enhance the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS) by moving the NAS from a centralised command-and-control system between pilots and air traffic controllers to a distributed system that allows pilots, whenever practical, to choose their own route and file a flight plan that follows the most efficient and economical route. French Air Navigation Study Centre (Centre des Etudes de la Navigation Aérienne) CENA, the French Air Navigation Study Centre, is responsible for promoting and designing advanced concepts required for the development of the future Air Traffic Control system within Europe. CENA carries out studies, research and experimentation in the areas of, air traffic and airspace management, telecommunications, aircraft surveillance, airborne aircraft separation systems, human computer interaction techniques everything else which contributes to the performance of air traffic control and air transport management. French Technical Air Navigation Service (Service Technique de la Navigation Antenne) The French Technical Air Navigation Service (Service Technique de la Navigation Antenne or STNA) carries out Air Navigation Directorate investment programmes. This activity covers firstly, the study, development and purchase of ground-based equipment and systems, and secondly, the design and development of the installations, their implementation and technical monitoring, as well as training the staff concerned. STNA is also responsible for flight inspection of all the radio navaids facilities and certification of all equipment concerning air traffic control installed by third parties. Galileo : European Satellite Navigation System This European Commision Directorates-General for Energy and Transport (DG TREN) site describes the programme which aims to provide the European Union with its own Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Herschel Space Observatory The European Space Agency's Herschel Space Observatory, formerly called Far Infrared and Submillimetre Telescope (FIRST), scheduled to be launched in the early part of 2009, will be the first space observatory covering the full far infrared and sub-millimetre waveband, and its telescope will have the largest mirror ever deployed in space. It is intended to assist astronomers to gain a better understanding of the formation of stars and galaxies. ICRC Databases on International Humanitarian Law Provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross, this site provides access to a treaty database that provides the full text of international humanitarian law treaties and documents including the Geneva Conventions and Protocols and details of which countries are signatories. There is also a national implementation database which provides documents on the implementation of humanitarian laws in nation states. Institute for the Study of Conflict, Ideology, and Policy (ISCIP) : Perspective Perspective is an electronic journal provided by the ISCIP based at Boston University. The site provides the full text of articles from the first issue to the present. The ISCIP studies political, international and security affairs of Russia and the NIS. This site links to the ISCIP and further publications such as NIS Observed (a biweekly analytical review), news features, books, occassional papers, lectures and a database on post-Soviet affairs. Intelligence on Iraq This site is maintained by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and provides access to a collection of documents relating to the controversy surrounding weapons of mass destruction and the war against Saddam Hussein and Iraq in 2002/3. A particular focus is on whether the British and American governments 'sexed up' intelligence dossiers in order to justify the war. The site includes speeches, press releases, transcripts and papers from Carnegie scholars on these issues. It also includes links to the key US and British government intelligence files, official enquiries such as the Hutton Report and commentary from other agencies. Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) The Committee is an international governmental forum for the worldwide coordination of activities related to the issues of man-made and natural debris in space. The primary purpose of the IADC is to exchange information on space debris research activities between member space agencies, to facilitate opportunities for cooperation in space debris research, to review the progress of ongoing cooperative activities and to identify debris mitigation options. The site also provides links to related publications and other web sites. International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) The IAA was founded in 1960 by Theodore Von Karman. International Centre for Peace Building Studies The International Centre For Peace Building Studies (ICPBS) is based in Washington DC. It aims to promote peaceful reconstruction and the rule of law in countries affected by international conflict, war or internal divisions. It also includes some news headlines on ongoing peace and reconstruction activities worldwide and has a searchable database of links to full text UN treaties, documents and images relating to international law, peacekeeping and the rule of law. International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was founded through the Convention on Inter-national Civil Aviation signed on 7 December 1944. It is the United Nations Specialized Agency responsible for establishing international standards, recommended practices and procedures covering the technical, economic and legal fields of international civil aviation operations. The ICAO web site provides access to a wealth of information resources. There is an informative "About" section, which describes the ICAO's foundation, aims, and structure, and contains the full text of the ICAO's Strategic Action Plan and Annual Report. The homepage links to the Air Navigation Bureau, the Air Transport Bureau, the Legal Bureau, ICAO regional offices, and there are sections of the site devoted to aviation medicine, environmental protection, and to TRAINAIR, the ICAO's aviation training programme. International Civil Aviation Organization Training Directory This service from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) lists over 400 training institutions worldwide which are involved in all areas of civil aviation training. It is updated annually and is searchable. The site provides general background information about the directory and instructions to those who wish to enter their organisation's details into the directory. The site also provides a list of ICAO course numbers in PDF format. International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations The International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) is a nonprofit federation of over 50 autonomous, nongovernmental, national general aviation organizations. The site contains a range of background information including the foundation and history of the IAOPA, its mission and objectives, and how it operates. There is a listing of worldwide affiliates. Other resources include international flight procedures, IAOPA policy manual and IAOPA statistical reports. International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) ICAS is a non-government, non-profit making, scientific organization which was established in 1957 to encourage the free interchange of information on aeronautical subjects. The objective of ICAS is to provide a worldwide forum for the discussion and international interchange of aeronautical problems and subjects, and promote international co-operation in the study of such problems in aeronautical science and technology where there is a common interest. International Security Information Service, Europe (ISIS Europe) International Security Information Service Europe has been established under Belgian law to provide information and analysis on international defence and security affairs to the European parliaments. Iraq : Killings of Civilians in Basra and al-Amara Full text of the Amnesty International report, published on 11th May 2004, which investigates the killing of civilians by British troops in Iraq. It looks at the killing of individuals and demonstrators by UK forces and the investigation and reparation of those killings. It also discussses whether the killings were within international humanitarian law as governed by the Geneva Conventions and Protocols, and the UN Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials in Non-Combat Situations. It also investigates killings by individuals and armed groups in Southern Iraq for political reasons, and the possibility of the involvement of Shi'a Islamist groups in Basra in violent crime. Iraq Weapons Inspection Database This is a searchable database providing a record of weapons inspections carried out by the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Iraq between November 2002 and March 2003. The database is compiled by an independent research organisation (VERTIC) who are concerned with the verification and monitoring of international agreements. The database can be browsed alphabetically by site inspected and the records provide details of the type of facility, region, proprietor, date of inspection, type of inspection team and number of inspectors. The site also provides background information to the weapons inspections, a guide to how the database was compiled and links to related VERTIC publications which can be freely downloaded on the site. Introductory information is given, including detailed mission objectives and information on Mercury itself. Mission and spacecraft design, trajectories, planning and instrumentation are also described. Several animations are available for viewing using Quicktime. Military Reform Project This is the website of the Center for Defense Information's Military Reform Project. The project provides a forum for the debate on the reform of the US military, and its aim is to debate the use, strategy, structure and policies of the United States armed forces. The website provides information on the project and full text reports on homeland security, security strategy, joint doctrine and strategy, and defence force transformation. Military Spending Working Group (MSWG) Military Spending Working Group (MSWG) is a coalition of over 20 research and advocacy organisations seeking to educate members of the public, news media, and government about the need to reduce excess military spending globally. It coordinates the activities of participating organizations. MONUC : United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo This is the web site of the UN peacekeeping mission in DR Congo. NAMSA : NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency Established in 1958, the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) is NATO's principal logistics support management agency. NAMSA's main task is to assist NATO nations by organising common procurement and supply of spare parts and arranging maintenance and repair services necessary for the support of various weapon systems in their inventories. NASA Near-Earth Object Program Office The Program Office was established at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in mid-1998 to help coordinate, and provide a focal point for, the study of comets and asteroids that can approach the Earth's orbit. The Quest Project is a service of the Education Program of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and is located at Ames Research Center. National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Formed by a merger between the American Defense Preparedness Association and the National Security Industrial Association, the NDIA is a non-profit international association based in Arlington, VA. Their mission is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between government and industry, focusing on; business and technical aspects of the relationship, government policies on acquisitions, research and development, logistics support and procurement. The Association has four affiliates; Association for Enterprise Integration, National Training Systems Association, Precision Strike Association and Women in Defense. National Obsolescence Centre The National Obsolescence Centre is a joint industry and QinetiQ initiative whose aim is to provide a support and guidance service on component obsolescence. The site provides access to members to the Component Availability Monitoring service and a serach facility to identify company name or solution providers. There is a link to a document register which contains details on legacy document systems, a bibliography and premiuim information for members. NATO Code of Best Practice for Command and Control Assessment This site provides access to a Research Technology Organisation Technical Report, RTO-TR-081, by the RTO Studies Analysis and Simulation Panel (SAS), dated January 2004. The report presents a Code of Best Practice developed by SAS-026, which builds on the command and control (C2) assessment of the Research Study Group, SAS-002 in March 1999 (RTO-TR-009). The Code provides guidance on the assessment of C2 to support decision makers and researchers. It has been updated to include issues related to operations other than war (OOTW) and to address the challenges presented by the information age. NATO Research and Research Technology Organization (RTO) The Research and Technology Organization is the focus for defence research and technology activities within NATO. It was formed by a merger of the Advisory Group for Aerospace Research & Development (AGARD) and the Defence Research Group (DRG). The RTO web site provides access to a wide range of information resources. The mission, objectives history, and organisational structure of the RTO are described. An events calendar provides details of RTO activities. NATO-PFP/Industry/National Modelling and Simulation Partnerships This site provides access to a Research and Technology Organisation Meeting Proceeding, RTO-MP-094, dated November 2003. NATO/IFOR Operation Joint Endeavour This site contains an archive of information relating to the NATO led Implementation Force(IFOR)restoring peace to former Yugoslavia. North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) This website provides information on NATO's policies and structures, official documents, press releases, speeches and publications and provides links to other relevant sites. Details are given on the latest news, ministerial meetings, NATO exercises and NATO in Kosovo. Information is available about NATO's organisation, its member & partner countries, and its civil & military structure and command. NATO agencies and staff vacancies are also covered. The online library provides fact sheets, documents and publications. The multimedia section provides images, video, internet broadcasts, audio and virual visits. Sub- sites include IFOR/ SFOR, Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council and Partnership for Peace (PfP). This site is also available in French. North Korea Special Weapons Guide Provided by GlobalSecurity, this site provides a comprehensive guide to the Democratic Republic of Korea, DPRK, weapons of mass destruction. It has details and specifications of missiles, chemical and biolgical weapons; special weapons facilties and target complexes; details of special weapons agencies and organisations; military doctrine and policy; a military capability guide; news reports; and details of further resources and sources for research. Oxford Analytica An international consulting firm analysing worldwide political, economic and social developments, Oxford Analytica was founded in 1975. It draws on the expertise and scholarship of over 1000 senior Oxford members and other world leading universities. You can access full text policy briefing papers, and there are news articles and analysis too. Pugwash Online Conferences on Science and World Affairs The purpose of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs is to bring together those persons concerned with reducing the danger of armed conflict and to seek solutions to global problems. There are links to reports on topics such as nuclear weapons; chemical and biological weapons; regional conflict and global security; space security; and energy, environment and science. Question of Palestine : History Site based on United Nations documents and sources which provide a history of Palestine and conflict in the Middle East from 1917 to the present. Report on the activities of Research and Scientific Support Department 2003-2004 This report on the activities of the Research and Scientific Support Department (RSSD) covers the two year period of 2003-2004 and is edited by A.Gimenez. It is prepared as an input to the Department's Advisory Committee. The report also covers the activities of the Science Payload and Advanced Concepts Office (SCI-A) owing to its closed links with many activities in RSSD and its history as the previous Science Payload Technology Division. SACLANT Undersea Research Centre This is the web site of an organisation which carries out research to support NATO's undersea operations. It advises and consults as well as carrying out scientific and engineering research and development in the following areas: military oceanography, mine warfare, and anti-submarine warfare. There is a publications section on the site which provides an annual bibliography of reports and details of the research carried out by the centre. There are links to other NATO departments and agencies and other institutions which carry out defence, oceanic and acoustic research. Simulation of and for Military Decision Making This site provides access to a Research and Technology Organisation Educational Note, RTO-EN-017, by the RTO Studies Analysis and Simulation Panel (SAS) and the Consultant and Exchange Programme of RTO, dated June 2003. It forms part of the RTO Lecture Series and was presented on 15-16 October 2001 in Rome, Italy, 18-19 October 2001 in Stockholm, Sweden, on 23-25 October 2001 in Virginia, USA and on 10-11 December 2002 in The Hague, The Netherlands. The aim of the lectures were to provide an overview of the use of modelling and simulation for military decision making in the areas of training and exercises, operations support, analysis and acquisition, as well as reviewing the latest technologies. Themes covered are compter assisted exercises, computer generated forces, and human behaviour representation. Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina This site is the home page of SFOR. It provides information and news updates about SFOR, including its mission, organisation, the nations and troops involved, its history and the commanders of the contingent. There are key documents on the site which include the full text of the General Framework Agreement for Peace, 1995; factsheets on project harvest, operation joint resolve and mine and unexploded ordnance clearance. There is a history of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the third century BC to 1992, and general information about the politics, culture and economy of the region now. STARnet : The NATO Science, Technology and Research Network This web site is being developed by the NATO Research and Technology Agency (RTA) Information Management Committee (IMC) and provides access to a virtual library of information. The site is divided into defence related subject nodes which provide access to organisational web sites and Internet based resources within the subject area. The nodes are: Aerospace and Aerospace Related Information Network (ARIN); Defence Against Terrorism Information Node (DTIN); Environmental and Biological Sciences Information Node (EBSIN); Information Science Information Node (INSCIN); Land Based Operations Node (LBON); Naval Marine and Sea Node (NAMAS); and the Resource Planning Node (RESPLAN). Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) SIPRI conducts research into finding peace and security solutions for international conflicts. The site gives details of their current research projects, some of which are full text, and cover topics such as arms control, conflict management, chemical and biological warfare, military expenditure, non proliferation, and security. There are full text publications including summaries of the SIPRI Yearbook in English, German, French, Dutch and Swedish; Research Reports and Policy Papers. Access to their databases on military expenditure, arms transfers, chemical and biological weapons non-proliferation, international relations and security trends and national export controls. There are also details on the history, organisation and activities of SIPRI. Study of Armed Conflicts Project (SIPRI) The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's research project into contemporary armed conflicts is divided into two distinct areas: Conflict and Peace enforcment, and Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution. The research area and mission of each of the two projects are listed and related publications are available. Swine influenza - Statement by WHO Director-General, Dr Margaret Chan 25 April 2009 In response to cases of swine influenza A(H1N1), reported in Mexico and the United States of America, the Director-General convened a meeting of the Emergency Committee to assess the situation and advise her on appropriate responses. The establishment of the Committee, which is composed of international experts in a variety of disciplines, is in compliance with the International Health Regulations (2005). The first meeting of the Emergency Committee was held on Saturday 25 April 2009. After reviewing available data on the current situation, Committee members identified a number of gaps in knowledge about the clinical features, epidemiology, and virology of reported cases and the appropriate responses. Brief report by the Director General of the World Health Committee regarding the current situation in Mexico and cases elsewhere of H1N1 influenza which constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. The Director-General states that current events constitute a public health emergency of international concern, under the Regulations. The Director-General recommends that all countries intensify surveillance for unusual outbreaks of influenza-like illness and severe pneumonia. Technical Report on Space Debris This is the full text of a report numbr A/AC.105/720 published by the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. It is available in PDF format and was published in 1999. The report discusses measurement of space debris, the effects of space debris on the operation of space systems, modelling and risk assessment, mitigation measures and protection strategies. The Angolan Mission Observer This is the bi-monthly publication of the Permanent Mission of the Republic for Angola to the United Nations. It appears on the web site of the Embassy in the United States and there are links to other information sources about Angola. The documents are in pdf format and require adobe acrobat to read them. The Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) The Centre for European Policy Studies was formed in 1983. It is an independent policy research institute covering two main topics - Economic policy; and Politics, Institutions and Security. There are links to various working papers and reports. The Director General of Civil Aviation This is a French organisation which covers Civil Aviation in France. There is information and some full-text reports (in PDF) available on strategic plans, flying regulations, statistics (including punctuality), environmental effects, a guide to passenger rights, information for professionals (including flying schools and information on pilots exams etc) as well as selected full-text articles from 'Aviation Civile' magazine and other publications are available. Currently (June 2003) there is only the annual report available in English although the English site will be added to. The Verification Research, Training and Information Centre VERTIC is a London based independent research organisation established in 1986. VERTIC's work is concerned with the verification and monitoring of international agreements and the site gives details of research projects taking place in the areas of arms control and disarmament, peace agreements and the environment. Some of VERTIC's publications can be viewed online in PDF format including copies of the annual Verification Yearbook and the bi-monthly newsletter, Trust and Verify. Other reports are freely available online and cover topics such as a guide to verifying environmental agreements, national laws enforcing the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and a handbook on verification and compliance. There are also databases of national legislation implementing the BWC and Iraqi weapons inspections. UK : Armed Forces : Families Deserve Justice Amnesty International press release from June 2003. It calls for the UK government to launch an independent inquiry into disputed noncombatant deaths in the UK armed forces. It discusses the deaths of four soldiers at Deepcut Barracks and subsequent investigations into the causes of death. The site links to the report, Army Barracks Deaths: Families Demand Justice, which was presented to the House of Commons in June 2003; further information on the cases of individual soldiers named in the report; and video clips from relatives of the deceased. UN Action Against Terrorism United Nations website which contains information on action by the Security Council and includes full text UN Resolutions, debates from the General Assembly and statements and reports from the Secretary General. There is a link to the latest UN news on the War on Terrorism, the full text of Chapter 7 : Action with Respect to Threats to the Peace, Breaches of Peace, and Acts of Agression from the UN Charter, and links to the UN Symposium on Terrorism and Disarmament. UNISPACE III: Third United Conference on Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space This conference was sponsored by the United Nations (UN), and was held in Vienna in July 1999. This site is the home page of the conference and provides background information to the conference, information for participants and the media, the conference programme, press releases and the full text of the UNISPACE III report and background papers in PDF format. United Nations Cartographic Section This site provides access to general maps, a map library and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) maps. The DPKO maps include ongoing peacekeeping missions, the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL), UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), UN Missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo (UNMIBH and UNMIK) and the Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM). There are also links to the latest information on these missions from the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) UNMOVIC was created to replace the UN Special Commission (UNSCOM) and to continue with inspections for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. This site provides details about the Commission and its work, inspection briefings, press statements on activities in Iraq, a brief chronology of events and UN documents such as UN Resolutions and quarterly reports. United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs This site presents information on the activities of the United Nations in the field of peaceful uses of outer space. It includes the full text of the reports of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its Scientific and Legal Subcommittee published since 1995, and other documents such as International Agreements and Principles on Outer Space. There are links to the recent activities of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications, and information is also provided by member states on their space related activities. The latter includes the registration of objects launched into space, the use of nuclear power sources in outer space, research on space debris and their mitigation techniques. United Nations Peacekeeping Best Practices Unit This is the web site of the PBPU, which provides advice and policy analysis to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and identifies lessons learned to support future and present peace support operations. The site provides a searchable online library of full text documents which contains internal and external reports on peacekeeping lessons, handbooks and after action reports. There is also a directory of organisations involved in peacekeeping and a listing of events and activities. United Nations Peacekeeping This site gives details of UN Peacekeeping activities. The site provides an overview of peackeeping activities; links to the websites of current operations in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and the Middle East; contains information on the mission and organisation of the Department of Peacekeeping; provides facts and figures on missions; provides resources such as an image gallery, deployment maps, and full text special reports; has details on past missions; and links to related United Nations peace and peacebuilding websites. This site is also available in French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish and links to the UN Home Page. War, Peace and Security Guide The War, Peace and Security Guide is a detailed set of links to resources on the Internet in these subject areas. It is maintained by the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College. Each section provides links to different types of resources including reference materials and reports, Canadian defence policy documents, CFC papers, and doctrine. The site is available in French or English versions. Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission Launched in December 2003 and chaired by Dr Hans Blix, the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, WMDC, was established on an initiative by the late Foreign Minister of Sweden, Anna Lindh, acting on a proposal by then United Nations Under Secretary General Jayantha Dhanapala. The mission of the WMDC is to identify proposals for international cooperation on non proliferation, arms control and threat reduction of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, biological, chemical and radiological weapons and the means of delivering them. The Commission is also concerned with possible links between these issues and terrorists. The web site contains details on the Commission including its mandate, commissioners, funding and secretariat; details of meetings, seminars and conferences; full text papers and studies produced by the WMDC; and the full text of the final report Weapons of Terror : Freeing the World of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Arms. World Air Games 2001 This is the official web site of the World Air Games 2001 (WAG 2001), which were held in Southern Spain, between June 23rd and July 1, 2001. World Aviation and Space Records This pages are part of the web site of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), which certifies and register aeronautical records. Xeus : X-ray Evolving Universe Spectroscopy mission The web site brings together a range of information relating to this European Space Agency mision to establish a permanent space-borne X-ray observatory. The introduction includes an MPG format (8.7 Mb) video clip. The mission concept section presents information on the mission profile, spacecraft design, current status and design goals. There are also explanations of the science goals of the mission and the specific technologies that will be employed.
