Free Definition : NATO Reporting Name

This site contains a definition and information on NATO reporting names. These were code names for Soviet equipment created to assist in communication between NATO military units who spoke different languages. It contains the reporting names for missiles, aircraft and submarines many of which are still in use.


Russian Navy Weapons Catalogue

This site lists information on all aspects of Russian naval vessels and the weapons they carry. It is divided into discrete areas:- Cruisers, Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes, Submarines, Aircraft and Missiles. There are images and detailed specifications on each item. There are links to other Russian military web sites, some in English, some in Russian.


SACLANT Undersea Research Centre

This is the web site of an organisation which carries out research to support NATO's undersea operations. It advises and consults as well as carrying out scientific and engineering research and development in the following areas: military oceanography, mine warfare, and anti-submarine warfare. There is a publications section on the site which provides an annual bibliography of reports and details of the research carried out by the centre. There are links to other NATO departments and agencies and other institutions which carry out defence, oceanic and acoustic research.


Submarine World Network

A submarine directory with over a thousand links to information on submarines, covering all nations and all periods of history. There is also a Directory of Online Submariners which provides names and email addresses of submariners.


World Navies Today

This site provides a database of navies and naval ships from around the world. These include surface combatants, submarines, mine warfare vessels and patrol craft over 100 tons displacement, and all amphibious ships and auxiliaries over 500 tons displacement. The site does not cover coast guards, police forces, non-self-propelled craft or non-naval branches of the government. Information is provided on navies from the United States, Europe, Russia, China, Asia & the Pacific, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, by country. Photographs, plus lists of aircraft carriers are also available.
