Combined Arms Research Library CSI/CGSC Press

This site provides access to publications of the Combat Studies Institute and Command and General Staff College Press, they include research studies, reports, surveys, and bibliographies. It gives a complete listing of publications for the past twenty years, most of which provide access to the full text of the document. The publications cover a wide range of subjects including military history, military theory and the practice of the military arts.


Defense-i.com

This is a portal giving information on all aspects of the international defense industry. Its publishers, SMi specialise in business to business information and the site provides information on procurement for buyers, allowing them to link up with companies providing the specialisation they need in any country. However it has information available on all aspects of the industry, including news items, contract information, research and analysis. The subscription publication, the Defence Digitisation Journal is also available at the site. Most of the site is available to the casual visitor, but there are pages with restricted access for which registration is necessary (free of charge).


Federal Research Division: Country Studies

This site contains on-line versions of books previously published by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress in the Country Studies/Area Handbook series, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Army. The site, which is searchable and browseable includes history, government, military and lifestyle information for each country/area. The site does not include information on the UK, France Canada and other Western and some African nations.


Guardian Unlimited, Special Report on Depleted Uranium

This site includes all aspects of the current issue of ill-health due to depleted uranium. There are articles, comment and analysis, explanation, lists of campaigning groups involved, as well as government departments and sources who are involved. The site also divides the issue into geographical location, Kosovo and Great Britain.


Marshall Center Conference Reports

The Marshall European Center for Security Studies, set up to encourage peace and democracy throughout Europe and Eurasia, holds about twenty conferences each year on defence-related subjects such as national security and organised crime, and defence economics. The reports are available to download and are in pdf so that Adobe Acrobat must be used.


Marshall Center Papers

These papers, available full text on-line, or to be purchased in hard copy are produced by the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. The center was set up to encourage peace in Europe and Eurasia, and works in three languages, English, Russian and German. The papers are scholarly works on defence-related security issues including peacekeeping, civil-military relations, arms control and defence planning. Adobe Acrobat is needed to read the papers, but can be downloaded at the site.


NDU Press

Provided by the National Defense University Institute for National Strategic Studies, NDU INSS, this site provides access to full text NDU Press publications. These include the journal Joint Force Quarterly; books; McNair Papers, Occasional Papers; Strategic Assessments; translated publications; and Annual Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Strategic Essay Contest winners. Subjects covered by the publications include national security strategy, defence policy, national military strategy, regional security affairs, and global strategic problems. The site can be browsed and there are also pdf subject and author indexes.


Oxford Research Group

Oxford Research Group is a leading independent think-tank that has been in existence for 30 years. SMi Conferences : Defence Events

This site provides a list of defence-related conferences and briefings held by the business and information group SMi. The conferences, for which you can register on-line are aimed at military personnel, procurement executives, and government officials. The topics of the conferences are varied and include IT, missile and weapon technology, procurement, logistics and support and training and simulation. Proceedings of past conferences can also be bought on-line.


SMi Publishing : Defence Reports

SMi publishes market research reports, management reports and newsletters for the global and European defence industry. Full listings of all publications are given and they can be purchased on-line. Reports are market specific or country specific and include subjects such as unmanned aerial vehicles, European military aircraft programmes, and Central and Eastern European defence markets.


The National Security Archive, George Washington University

This is a research institute in international affairs, a library and archive of declassified US documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act(FOIA) and an indexer and publisher. It is privately funded by publishing revenues and donations. There is a guide for researchers who either want to use the site or the archive itself, and information about publications and documents held in the archive. Current research projects are listed and include China, India-Pakistan, Iran, and Openness in Russia and Eastern Europe.


US Air Force Publishing

This site is the official source for US Air Force administative publications and forms. It is necessary to open an account in order to order and view publications. These can be found by using either the Master Catalog or by using a quick search option. Copies of forms are available for downloading, in addition to doctrine documents, mission directives, recurring periodicals, and indexes.


US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer and Research Development Center (ERDC) Virtual Library

This site provides the full text of publications of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. They cover a wide range of subjects including military engineering, construction and environmental issues. It also provides details of useful internet links, contact details for the library, and publications of the USACE, Civil Works Guidance Documents and the Handbook of Concrete and Cement.
