Aerospace and defence procurements Acquisition Operating Framework This site provides access to the UK Ministry of Defence Acquisition Operating Framework, AOF, which defines how to conduct procurement processes in the Ministry of Defence. It replaced the Acquisition Management System, AMS, in April 2008. Its aim is to provide acquisition based guidance and advice to help people understand procedures and policies. Annual Report to the President and the Congress 1998 Report by the Secretary of State of Defense, W.S. Cohen, on future US defense strategy, readiness, conventional and nuclear forces, information superiority, total force integration, the revolution in military affairs, acquisition reform and defense infrastructure. Annual Reports to the President and Congress Also known as the Annual Defense Report, this is the report by Secretary of Defense which details the Department's capabilities, and present and future US defence strategy. Full text annual reports are available from 1995 to the present year online. There are also details on how to order hard copies of the reports. Armed Forces : Defence Suppliers Directory Compiled by R & F Defence Publications, this site provides information about the United Kingdom's armed forces and defence sector. It contains a defence suppliers directory which lists major defence companies and products; news and analysis about the defence industry and defence companies; and summaries on major current and future defence procurement programmes. There are also pages containing comprehensive information about the UK Armed Forces. The Royal Navy section looks at command and organisation, vessels, Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service, naval aviation, navy missiles and the Royal Marines. The British Army section covers statistics, command and organisation, formations, corps and their equipment, reserve forces, recruitment, selection and training. The Royal Air Force part includes RAF squadron listings, RAF Command, RAF Strike Command, RAF personnel and training, RAF logisitcs, RAF aircraft, RAF weapons, and future projects. There is also a management of section which includes information on the chain of command, current operations, the Ministry of Defence and associated agencies and organisations. The site also has a standard military abbreviations list and useful links. Army Technology - Contractors A-Z Army Technology provides the website for defence industries (army). Here they provide an A-Z listing of defence contractors and suppliers. Products or services can be found by category, by using their equipment catalogue. It is also possible to reach the rest of the Army Technology website, which provides information about current projects, exhibitions & conferences and industry organisations. Army Technology - Current Projects Army Technology provides information about defence industries - army. This part of their site provides details of current projects being undertaken by the defence industry. These include contracts for Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Artillery Systems, Missile Systems, Attack and Support Helicopters. For each project information is also available about approved suppliers. The rest of the Army Technology site can be accessed from here, which gives details of defence equipment, companies and conferences. Defence Industrial Strategy : Defence White Paper The Secretary of State for Defence announced the UK Defence Industrial Strategy on 15 December 2005 in Parliament. This site provides access to the full text pdf version of the Defence White Paper Cm 6697. The aim of the strategy is to provide UK Armed Forces with appropriate equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner. To do this the UK requires adequate industrial capability including infrastructure, skills, intellectual property and capacity to maintain national security and sovereignty. The paper gives a strategic overview of the defence market, UK business environment, research and technology, and defence exports; reviews industrial sectors such as systems engineering, maritime, armoured fighting vehicles, helicopters and munitions; and implementing the Defence Industrial Strategy. Defence Procurement Analysis This is the online version of DPA Magazine. Its aim is to monitor advances in defence technology and geopolitical developments which will have an effect on international defence procurement policy. The magazine is published quarterly and it is possible to subscribe to it from this site. The website features news updated daily, and an archive of features divided into land, air, sea, procurement and specialist topics. Defense Industry Daily This site provides worldwide defence industry and contractor news and is published every week day. The site provides the day's main headlines and links to the sources of information; the headlines are also available as an RSS feed. There is also an archive of news stories divided into browseable categories such as corporations, geographical focus, industry, armed forces, projects and sectors such as aircraft, ordnance, and logistics.

The chapters cover information processing, transfer, modelling, metadata, exchange, human computer interface and information security standards. Equipment Training and Support News (ETS News) This is a quarterly journal on simulation and training, defence procurement, defence upgrades and the defence industry. It contains news items as well as reports from defence equipment exhibitions. Articles are available on-line in full text, illustrated with photographs. An archive is also available. European Defence Agency (EDA) The Agency was established under a Joint Action of the Council of Ministers on 12 July, 2004. The EDA's role is to support the Member States and the Council in their effort to improve European defence capabilities for crisis-management operations under the European Security and Defence Policy. The site provides a background description of the Agency, reference and finance documents. There is also organisation information which covers its constituent Directorates responsible for Capabilities Development, Armaments Cooperation, Industry and Market, Research and Technology and Corporate Services. A major section of the site is devoted to the defence equipment market and this includes information on the Code of Conduct on Defence Procurement and Code of Best Practice in the Supply Chain. Access is also provided to an electronic bulletin board. Other sections include News; Documents; Defence Facts (includes a summary of Defence Research and Technology Spend) and Dealing with the EDA (procurement, vacancies and experts).

Six of were Mk2a and have flown satisfactorily ever since delivery. The remaining eight were modified to an Mk3 standard in order to meet a requirement for Special Forces. The Committee examined the procurement of these eight helicopters in this report on Battlefield Helicopters and considered it to be one of the worst examples of equipment procurement ever scrutinised and with a significant impact on the safety and logistics of the British armed forces on operations. How to do Business With the Norwegian Armed Forces This document is available on-line as well as in hard copy and is regularly updated. It is intended for use by both Norwegian and foreign suppliers and industry who wish to win or already have contracts with the Norwegian military. It deals with all aspects of procurement from local office supplies to multi-million dollar contracts for weapons systems. Procurement policy, organisation, procedures and regulations are laid out in the document which has links to the Norwegian government and Ministry of Defence homepages. Military Spending Working Group (MSWG) Military Spending Working Group (MSWG) is a coalition of over 20 research and advocacy organisations seeking to educate members of the public, news media, and government about the need to reduce excess military spending globally. It coordinates the activities of participating organizations.

Review of the U.S. Department of Defense Air, Space, and Supporting Information Systems Science and Technology Program Written by the Committee on Review of the U.S. Department of Defense, Air and Space Systems Science and Technology Program, Department of Military Science and Technology, National Research Council. This report was produced in response to the Strom Thurmond National Defense Authorization Act, 1999, which requested that a study was conducted on the technology base of the Department of Defense. The report looks at investment in science and technology covering air and space systems, information systems, and the science and technology workforce. SMi Conferences : Defence Events This site provides a list of defence-related conferences and briefings held by the business and information group SMi. The conferences, for which you can register on-line are aimed at military personnel, procurement executives, and government officials. The topics of the conferences are varied and include IT, missile and weapon technology, procurement, logistics and support and training and simulation. Proceedings of past conferences can also be bought on-line. TNO: Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research TNO is an independent contract research organisation which links fundamental research as a source of knowledge with its practical application. TNO is involved in collaborative and contract R & D, consultancy and testing & evaluation. TNO has 14 core areas of expertise in research and technology, including defence, applied physics, transport & logistics and innovation management. U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) PEO STRI is a United States Government agency with a science and technology objective. It is involved in interoperable training, testing, instrumentation, simulation and military procurement. Specialisms include acquisition, research and engineering and resource management.
