BBC News : In Depth : World War II : 60 Years On BBC news site created to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The site contains a VE Day audio slide show of how the end of the war was celebrated across Europe; feature articles on peace and reconstruction; the full text of the King George VI address to the nation; and images of Europe's cities after World War Two had hit; as well as news stories on the current day celebrations to mark the event. The site also links to resources on the Holocaust and D-Day and key war events. companycommand This is a site created by some U.S. Army Company Commanders and provides a forum for past, present and future Company commanders. Contributors are invited to send in their experiences and ideas in the field, there is a monthly theme (for example physical fitness), professional reading suggestions, an online 'library', command challenges where a command scenario is set and readers can send in their solution to problems to be discussed on a public pin-board. There are also links to other useful sites for Company Commanders. Field Manuals The General Dennis J. Reimer Training and Doctrine Digital Library provides full text descriptions of 468 US Army Field Manuals, including summary information, document number and title. Field Manuals contain doctrine and training principles with supporting tactics, techniques, and/or procedures and describe how the Army and its organizations function in terms of missions, organizations, personnel, and equipment. Field Manuals implement ratified international standardization agreements and may also contain informational or reference material relative to military operations and training and may be used to publish select alliance doctrinal publications that are not readily integrated into other doctrinal literature. Each Field Manual is accessed via a contents page, and some are restricted and encrypted. It is also possible to reach the General Dennis J. Grenades, Mines and Boobytraps A comprehensive enthusiast website covering hand grenades, rifle grenades, landmines, boobytraps and demolition charges, and their related fuzes. Details include information on their construction, use and functionality. The manuals, documents and images are mostly historical and relate to hand-held grenades from 52 countries around the world. London at War 1939-1945 This site is provided by HOLNET, and provides resources for learning and teaching school children about the history of London. The teaching zone provides downloadable worksheets and activities for teachers and guidance on using the web site. The learning zone provides brief information, images, diaires and recollections from people who lived through the war on the subjects of air raids, daily life, children and the war and shelters. World War II Timeline Provided by Steve Schoenherr, Professor of History at the University of San Diego, this site provides a breakdown of the history of the Second World War from 1917 to its end in 1945. The site provides a summary of key events during each period, images, maps and documents.
