Naval weapons An Assessment of Non-Lethal Weapons Science and Technology Produced by the Committee for an Assessment of Non-Lethal Weapons Science and Technology, National Research Council. This is a full-text publication that aims to assess current and potential areas for science and technology development in non-lethal weapons to support naval expeditionary forces. An Assessment of Undersea Weapons Science and Technology Written at the request of the Office of Naval Research by the Committee for Undersea Weapons Science and Technology under the Naval Studies Board, National Reasearch Council. This book looks at scientific and technological developments in this area covering both current programmes and future naval undersea weapons. Ministry of Defence : Providing Anti-Air Warfare Capability: the Type 45 Destroyer: Report by the Comptroller and Auditor General, HC 295 session 2008-2009 13 March 2009 The National Audit Office report on the project to replace the UK’s Type 42 destroyer, has suffered significant delays of over two years and costs have escalated to some £6.5 billion. Because of the delay in bring in the replacement Type 45 destroyers the MOD has extended the service life of the older Type 42 destroyers. The new platforms will have greater capability, being able to engage multiple hostile aircraft or missiles simultaneously. They will also provide better crew facilities and be more fuel efficient and will be able to supportthe Lynx, Merlin and Chinook helicopters. Armament will be the new Principal Anti Air Missile System (PAAMS). However the strategy is to fit a number of equipment incrementally on ships after they have come into service, so the full capability of the Type 45 will not be available until the middle of the next decade. Russian Navy Weapons Catalogue This site lists information on all aspects of Russian naval vessels and the weapons they carry. It is divided into discrete areas:- Cruisers, Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes, Submarines, Aircraft and Missiles. There are images and detailed specifications on each item. There are links to other Russian military web sites, some in English, some in Russian. United States Naval Research Laboratory The US Naval Research Laboratory conducts scientific research and technological development for the United States Navy and the Marine Corps. The site provides information on the NRL including a timeline of its achievements since it was founded in 1920 and a details of their technological developments including radar and radio systems, rockets, solar and lunar studies, astronomy, the ocean and environment and materials.
