Military Vehicle Technology Air Force Research Laboratory The United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is situated at Wright- Patterson Air Force Base. This website provides information concerning the AFRL headquarters, including details of its reading room, corporate strategy, organisation, symposiums, seminars and conferences. There are also links to the AFRL's various directorates: air vehicles, directed energy, human effectiveness, information, materials & manufacturing, munitions, propulsion, sensors and space vehicles. All Electric Combat Vehicles (AECV) for Future Applications This site provides access to a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) Technical Report, RTO-TR-AVT-047, dated July 2004. The report was sponsored by the RTO Applied Vehicle Technology Panel (AVT) Task Group. It analyses studies from the past decade on All Electronic Combat Vehicles and looks at enabling technologies and electric vehicle drives looking in particular at technology requirements, mobility, survivability and lethality, modelling and simulation, and power generation. The document is contained in the RTO's Full Text Publication Library. Army Technology - Current Projects Army Technology provides information about defence industries - army. This part of their site provides details of current projects being undertaken by the defence industry. These include contracts for Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Artillery Systems, Missile Systems, Attack and Support Helicopters. For each project information is also available about approved suppliers. The rest of the Army Technology site can be accessed from here, which gives details of defence equipment, companies and conferences. Army Technology The site includes descriptions, photos and specifications of a wide range of military products produced by many different manufacturers. There is an A-Z index of companies and also information on exhibitions and conferences and industry organisation. Descriptions of current projects are given. Governments and agencies are listed and links are provided. Army's Future Combat Systems Program and Alternatives This is a full text pdf Congressional Budget Office, CBO, Study, published in August 2006. The report looks at the near and long term implications of the Future Combat Systems, FCS, programme to replace the United States Army's fleet of ageing armoured combat vehicles with lighter more agile systems. The chapters look at the Army's heavy forces and armoured vehicles; provides a description of the Army's modularity initiative and FCS programme; potential effects of and concerns about the Army's modernisation plans; and looks at alternative approaches to modernising the Army's heavy forces. Assessment of the U.S. Army Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center This is a report providing expert assessment of the research, development and engineering organization including products and technologies at the RDEC. Beulah Videos Site selling Royal Navy videos on training, frigates, briefings on the Royal Marines, destroyers, and life in the Royal Navy. This report presents the results of a study conducted by the RTO Systems Concepts and Integration Panel (SCI) Task Group SCI-53, Vehicle Dynamics, System Identification, Control and Handling Qualities. This report addresses the second goal of the SCI-53 technical team, namely to build mechanisms to assist the co-ordination and integration of experts working in the different operational environments. It provides a preliminary review of the issues involved in vehicle dynamics, modeling and system identification, control, and handling qualities as these topics apply to modern military vehicles in all four environments. By focusing on the commonalties and differences between the four environments, this report will also serve to highlight areas of potential collaboration between experts from the various technical communities. Combat Systems General Dynamic's Combat Systems group is a supplier of land and amphibious combat vehicles from development to production to customer support. Encyclopedia of the Tanks of World War II An enthusiast site containing details of tanks and armoured vehicles that served in World War Two. It is possible to view tanks in chronological order of being made (from 1917 - 1945), or to compare tanks using a split screen which gives summary details of technical data. There is also more detailed information and pictures of each vehicle provided. Equipment Training and Support News (ETS News) This is a quarterly journal on simulation and training, defence procurement, defence upgrades and the defence industry. It contains news items as well as reports from defence equipment exhibitions. Articles are available on-line in full text, illustrated with photographs. An archive is also available. European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) EADS is one of the largest aerospace companies in Europe and was formed from a merger between French Aerospatiale Matra S.A. (Paris), the Spanish Construcciones Aeronáuticas S.A. (CASA, Madrid) and the German DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG (Dasa, Munich). EADS covers the areas of Airbus, aeronautics (military aircraft, helicopters, regional aircraft), military transport aircraft, defence and security systems and space. This site provides product information and specifications, a photo gallery, press releases, employment and financial information plus the latest stock quotes. The site is also available in German, French and Spanish. General Dynamics Supplier of sophisticated defence systems and a provider of advanced business aircraft to corporate, government and individual owners. How to do Business With the Norwegian Armed Forces This document is available on-line as well as in hard copy and is regularly updated. It is intended for use by both Norwegian and foreign suppliers and industry who wish to win or already have contracts with the Norwegian military. Internet for Aeronautical Engineering Produced by information specialists at Cranfield University, this is part of the Intute Virtual Training Suite (VTS), an initiative designed to teach Internet information skills to the UK Higher Education community. However, the free tutorial is potentially useful to everybody who wishes to improve their subject knowledge of aerospace and defence on the Internet. It takes the form of a "teach yourself" tutorial and includes quizzes and exercises for learners to test their knowledge. It has four main components - a 'Tour' of useful high quality Web sites, 'Discover' gives tips on how to improve searching skills, 'Judge' emphasises the need for critical evaluation of information on the Internet and 'Success' offers practical examples of people using the Internet successfully. The site also provides a jeep identification index and military parts locator (which gives store listings). Military.com Designed for America's military community, this site aims to meet the needs of military consumers. It is a joint service site and covers travel, careers, reunions, finance and merchandise, as well as military history, military equipment, military news and military operations. There are areas tailored specifically to members of the army, navy, air force, marine corps, coast guard, veterans and spouses which you have to register to use, but subscriptions are free. Ministry of Defence Finland This is a comprehensive web site giving information on all aspects of the Ministry of Defence in Finland. The subject areas are divided into an overview, topical (latest news), total defence (national security strategy), defence policy, resources - which includes finances, procurement and infrastructure, legislation and research, and publications which covers the Finnish defence budget and defence contracts bulletin. Photovault Military Images This site provides a selection of military images relating to vehicles (air force, naval aviation, submarines, aircraft carriers, hovercraft), people (Army, Navy, Marines, Coastguard) and the environment (the results of nuclear explosions and military damage). Use of Lightweight Materials in 21st Century Army Trucks This site provides access to the full text of the report written by the National Research Council Committee on Lightweight Materials for 21st Century Army Trucks and the National Materials Advisory Board, published by the National Academies Press in 2003.
