Air Force Link : Fact Sheets

Provided by the United States Air Force, this site contains fact sheets on aspects of the USAF. Topics covered include organisations; space systems including satellites, GPS, surveillance and radar; weapons including missiles, sidewinder and joint direct attack munitions; and fighter, bomber, transport and reconniassance aircraft including Hercules, Globemaster, F 117A Nighthawk, F 15 Eagle, Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, and U 2. Each factsheet contains an overview of the mission, specifications and capabilities of the equipment, a picture and contact details.


Applied Technology Institute (ATI)

The Applied Technology Institute specialises in technical training and continuing education organisation with particular emphasis on short courses, seminars, professional development and technical training. The site includes links to information resources on topics such as acoustics, sonar, space and aerospace. There are details of courses and technical seminars in acoustics, noise, sonar, computer programming, information technology, radar, missiles, combat systems, remote sensing, signal processing, space, satellite and aerospace engineering.


Arms Control Today (ACT)

Full-text articles about all aspects of arms control and nuclear proliferation. Published monthly, all issues from 1997 are available on-line.


Army Technology - Current Projects

Army Technology provides information about defence industries - army. This part of their site provides details of current projects being undertaken by the defence industry. These include contracts for Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Artillery Systems, Missile Systems, Attack and Support Helicopters. For each project information is also available about approved suppliers. The rest of the Army Technology site can be accessed from here, which gives details of defence equipment, companies and conferences.


Army Technology Image Gallery

Image gallery of equipment, systems and components of the defence industry including; ammunition and fuzes; armoured fighting vehicles and upgrades; artillery and mortars; bridging and breaching equipment; civil defence, security and law enforcement products and services; explosives; small arms; NBC equipment; surveillance systems; and turrets. There is also a section titled projects which features air defence missile systems, anti-armour missiles, armoured fighting vehicles, artillery systems, attack helicopters, main battle tanks, support helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Once pictures have been selected, clicking on them takes you to a profile of the equipment and details of the manufacturer.


Bureau of Arms Control

The US State Department Bureau of Arms Control provides a collection of links to the full texts of arms control treaties and agreements. These include; the Ballistic Missile Launch Notification Agreement, Biological Weapons Convention, Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE) and the Geneva Protocol. The site also provides texts of the Hot Line Agreement, Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) Guidelines, Outer Space Treaty, Prevention of Nuclear War Agreement and the Threshold Test Ban Treaty. There are also sections providing information on the Biological Weapons Convention, the Chemical Weapons Convention, Missile Defence and the Weapons of Mass Destruction Threat.


Center for Nonproliferation Studies : North Korea Special Collection

This site contains links to full text publications on North Korea from the CNS and other institutions. They are grouped into recent texts; key issues and analyses of the DPRK nuclear crisis; op eds; general overview; nuclear weapons programme; chronologies; agreed framework and KEDO; and missiles. There are also maps of nuclear, chemical, biological and missile sites and satellite images of nuclear facilities.

Country Assessments : Korean Peninsula

Provided by the Institute for Science and International Security, ISIS, this site provides access to full text publications on North Korea, its nuclear programme and uranium enrichment from 1994 to the present. There are also satellite images and photographs of nuclear facilities.


CRS Report for Congress : North Korean Ballistic Missile Threat to the United States

This is the full text pdf version of the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service report, RS21473, written by Andrew Feickert and last updated on 1st October 2003. It looks at North Korean, or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, ballistic missile and missile launch technological developments. It looks at the background to the DPRK Taepo Dong programme; potential configurations and ranges; speculation over a new Taepo Dong 2 missile; intermediate range missile development; and considerations for Congress.


Federation of American Scientists : Military Analysis Network : Rest-of-World Missile Systems

This site contains descriptions, specifications and pictures of selected missile systems owned by countries other than the United States. It covers surface-to-air, air-to-air, air-to-surface and surface-to-surface (tactical) missiles from the European Union, Russian Federation, China, Taiwan, Japan, India, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt, Israel and South Africa. The site also contains links to further relevant resources.


Federation of American Scientists Military Analysis Network

This site has information on military operations and equipment, both U.S. and rest of the world. The equipment information,including ships, missiles, aircraft, land-based weapon systems and smart weapons give specifications for each weapon described and many images. There is information about U.S. defence contractors, analysis on military and world news. There are many useful links, including government sites, defence industry sites, peace, security and analysis sites, doctrine and associations and societies.


Free Definition : NATO Reporting Name

This site contains a definition and information on NATO reporting names. These were code names for Soviet equipment created to assist in communication between NATO military units who spoke different languages. It contains the reporting names for missiles, aircraft and submarines many of which are still in use.


History of Ballistic Missile Development in the DPRK

This is the full text pdf version of the Monterey Institute of International Studies Center for Nonproliferation Studies, MIIS CNS, Occassional Paper No. 2 written by Joseph S. Bermudez Jr. and published in 1999. The paper provides a history of the evolution of North Korea's, or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, missile programmes. Chapters cover early developments from 1960 to 1979 and the establishment of a ballistic missile programme; the first ballistic missiles from 1979 to 1989; and longer range designs from 1989 to 1999.

Site provided by the HowStuffWorks media company which gives explanations on how things work, links to other relevant sites, and provides a forum for discussion of topics. This site is devoted to weapons and covers subjects such as Apache helicopters, fighter aircraft, body armour, missiles and bombs, grenades, guns, camouflage, and missile defence systems.


John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory Technical Digest

The APL Technical Digest is published quarterly and is a technical journal aimed at promoting the work of the laboratory. The site provides the full text of articles and there is an archive to 1995. The APL is a not-for-profit division of John Hopkins University, whose specialties include research in missiles, radar, sonar, sensor technologies, space science and engineering, modelling and simulation.


Military Technical Academy

The Romanian Military Technical Academy trains engineer officers in technical specialties such as armament, missiles, aircraft, armour, electronics, computer systems, engineering and geodetics. This site provides information about the Academy and its educational process, events and admissions. Links are also provided to other Romanian resources and related sites. The site is also available in Romanian and French.

This page has information about the current work that the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute is carrying out in this area, including missile and nuclear weapons proliferation, and military technology and the risk of war. Designed for America's military community, this site aims to meet the needs of military consumers. It is a joint service site and covers travel, careers, reunions, finance and merchandise, as well as military history, military equipment, military news and military operations. There are areas tailored specifically to members of the army, navy, air force, marine corps, coast guard, veterans and spouses which you have to register to use, but subscriptions are free.


Missile Aerodynamics

This site provides access to the Research and Technology Organization Meeting Proceedings, RTO-MP-5, 11-14 May 1998, Sorrento, Italy. It contains papers prepared for the Symposium on Missile Aerodynamics organised by the RTO Applied Vehicle Technology Panel. It also contains an evaluation report of the Symposium and a transcript of the General Discussion held at the meeting. The keynote presentations were on missile aerodynamics, and future missile system trends and their impact on aerodynamics. Other subjects covered included prediction methodology, aerodynamic design, jet effects and flows physics and turbulence modelling. The document is contained in the RTO's full text publication library.


Missile Defense Agency

Within the U.S Department of Defense, the Missile Defense Agency is responsible for managing, directing, and executing the Missile Defense (BMD) Program. Its mission is to develop, test and prepare for deployment a missile defense system. The site provides an extensive number of resources such as a glossary, library, budget information and reports in addition to news and an overview of the Program itself.


North Korea Profile

This is a country profile from the Nuclear Threat Initiative, NTI. It contains background information on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea missile crisis and nuclear, biological and chemical programme including capabilities, facilities, a chronology of events and details of imports and exports. There are also further resources including maps, issue briefs, details of the status of the DPRK's participation in organisations and treaties such as the nuclear nonproliferation treaty, and links to related web sites and publications.

Provided by the Federation of American Scientists, this is a comprehensive guide to North Korea's weapons of mass destruction. There is information and specifications on its ballistic missiles; nuclear, biological and chemical weapons programmes; details and locations of special weapons facilities; military doctrine and defence policy of the DPRK; and details of the organisation of special weapons agencies. There are also links to the sources and resources that the information within the web site came from.

The report was written following the Democratic Republic of Korea's testing of seven missiles on the 4th July 2006 and looks at the military and strategic impact of the tests, the likely reality of the performance of the long range missiles, the threat environment in Asia, and United States ballistic missile defence policy.


Paths Ahead : Missile Defense in Asia

This is a full text pdf report which is the result of a study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies and was published in March 2006. The study assesses developments in missile defence in Asia. The focus of the report is on Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan and their defence capabilities, ballistic missile defence policy and threats to the nations. It also looks at how these issues could inform the United States approach to missile defence architecture and foreign policy in the region.

Russian Navy Weapons Catalogue

This site lists information on all aspects of Russian naval vessels and the weapons they carry. It is divided into discrete areas:- Cruisers, Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes, Submarines, Aircraft and Missiles. There are images and detailed specifications on each item. There are links to other Russian military web sites, some in English, some in Russian.


Saygrove Electronics

This is an independent UK contract electronics manufacturer providing a variety of design, manufacturing and testing services. Products include those of interest to the defence industry such as electronic defence sub-systems through to smartcard readers and printed circuit assemblies for the communications market. Areas of defence expertise include missiles, mine clearing, naval sonar, fuses and vehicular communication electronics.


Thales Air Defence

The company specialises in air defence through battlefield radar, command and control systems, and missiles. Site provides an outline of the company, and product details including specifications. There are also links to the websites of the companies that make up the Thales Air Defence section


U.S. Army Space and Missile Defence Command (USASMDC)

The command group, including the U.S. Army Space Command (ARSPACE) is described here. It is responsible for national missile defence and theater missile defense (TMD). The site contains biographies of personnel, aquisition information for industry, news and briefing, and a 'family programmes' page. Some of the information on the operations site is restricted.


United States Weapon Systems

Provided by the Federation of American Scientists and part of the military analysis network, this site contains detailed information on United States weapon systems, providing specifications and links to further information. It includes smart weapons, dumb bombs, missiles, nuclear systems, and space, aircraft, land and ship systems. There is also a section for systems around the world and links to further related sites.
