Ministries of Defence Acquisition Operating Framework This site provides access to the UK Ministry of Defence Acquisition Operating Framework, AOF, which defines how to conduct procurement processes in the Ministry of Defence. It replaced the Acquisition Management System, AMS, in April 2008. Its aim is to provide acquisition based guidance and advice to help people understand procedures and policies. AcqWeb This is the official website of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics. Its mission is to advise the Secretary of Defense about the Department of Defense's acquisition process, research and development; advanced technology; test and evaluation; production; logistics; military construction; procurement; economic security; and atomic energy. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) : Technical Information Office This site provides access to the US AFRL library catalogue, databases, electronic journals, government technical reports, full text Department of Defense standards. There is a list of relevant links, the public access catalogue, literature search and material request forms, and information on library services. Some parts of this web site are restricted. Armed Forces : Defence Suppliers Directory Compiled by R & F Defence Publications, this site provides information about the United Kingdom's armed forces and defence sector. It contains a defence suppliers directory which lists major defence companies and products; news and analysis about the defence industry and defence companies; and summaries on major current and future defence procurement programmes. There are also pages containing comprehensive information about the UK Armed Forces. The Royal Navy section looks at command and organisation, vessels, Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service, naval aviation, navy missiles and the Royal Marines. The British Army section covers statistics, command and organisation, formations, corps and their equipment, reserve forces, recruitment, selection and training. The Royal Air Force part includes RAF squadron listings, RAF Command, RAF Strike Command, RAF personnel and training, RAF logisitcs, RAF aircraft, RAF weapons, and future projects. There is also a management of section which includes information on the chain of command, current operations, the Ministry of Defence and associated agencies and organisations. There is also a gallery of photographs taken from service archives. Biological and Chemical Defence Review Committee (BCDRC) Established by the Minister of National Defence (Canada), this committee reviews research, development and training activities undertaken by the Department of National Defence in biological and chemical defence. This site is linked from the the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff group site and is also available in French. It gives the background of the committee, its members, and full text annual reports from 1990. It also has a full text report entitled 'Research Development and Training in Chemical and Biological Defence Within the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces', by William H. Barton. British Army This is the official web site of the British Army. It contains information about the British Army for serving soldiers, their families, the territorial army, regular reservists and people wanting to join the Army. It contains personnel information such as military rates of pay, pensions, terms of service, discipline and military law and human rights. It has links to information on ceremonies, museums and events including sports fixtures and adventurous training. There is careers information on all types of jobs in the Army and how to apply to join. There are also links to all of the Units including Headquarters, Corps, the Territorial Army, Divisions and Brigades, Regiments and Batallions, Training establishements and Cadets. The site also contains the latest news about the British Army and information on deployments. British Defence Staff (Washington) BDS(W) is based at the British Embassy in Washington, DC. Its mission is "to sustain and enhance the UK-US defence and security relationship". The site provides information on the activities, organisation and business areas of BDS(W). There is information on British defence policy and the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force staff within the United States. The site also provides an overview of defence industry, technology, and equipment cooperation. Canadian Air Force This is the official website of Canada's Air Force. The site provides information on the locations and responsibilities of the Air Force's Wings and careers. There is also a section on the Canadian Force's aircraft, which provides information and pictures of current and historical military planes, as well as a virtual reality tour of a CF-18 fighter jet. There is also a history of the Air Force and a link to the Snowbirds aerial acrobatic team. The site is also available in French. Canadian Army Lessons Learned Centre The mission of the Centre is to analyse Canadian and allied operations and training and disseminate the results as lessons learned. The website contains Post Operation Report templates for deployed and domestic operations, and Post Exercise Report templates for units and headquarters to input their observations. There is also access to the quarterly publications Dispatches, which is about military lessons learned, and the ALLC Bulletin, which provides information on the ALLC and topical issues. The site links to the After Action Review and Observer Controller website, which is part of the ALLC and aims to deliver training and education to soldiers to enable them to learn from their experiences. The site is also available in French. Canadian Army This is the official website of the Canadian Army. It contains information on Army units, Army life and careers. There is also a section on equipment divided into vehicles, weapons, gear and future projects, which provides information, pistures and virtual tours of equipment. The news section provides the latest headlines, key documents and speeches. The site is also available in French. Canadian Forces Current Operations This site details the status of current Canadian forces operations. It lists current operations involving Canadian troops, NATO and the UN. The missions can be accessed by a clickable map or a list of regions. The site also provides an overview of past operations from 1992. Canadian Navy The Canadian Navy home page provides information about the fleet. It gives details of naval operations and exercises, including Operation Apollo. There are links to careers, the history of the Canadian Navy, which links to Project Pride giving historical information and an image gallery. There is also news and information, an image gallery and links to formations and units and associations. Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet This site provides information about the U.S. Pacific fleet, which is comprised of some eighty-five vessels throughout the pacific region. They are supported by operations based in San-Diego. There are links to individual ships' sites, U.S. naval history sites and other Naval Departments, as well as naval news items and FAQ's. Corporate Publications : Key Documents for Defence Linked from the Ministry of Defence web site, this site provides access to full text Minisry of Defence publications and reports. It contains MoD business plans including Expenditure Plans and the MoD Departmental Plan; MoD public consultations; government policy and strategy on defence including White Papers and the Departmental Framework Document; and a reports section which links to the House of Commons Defence Select Committee Reports and National Audit Office Reports as well as annual reports, financial reports and reports of interest to the defence business community, veterans and researchers. Counter Terrorism Protective Security Advice for Shopping Centres This report is written by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO), on behalf of ACPO (TAM) in 2006. The purpose to this guide is to provide protective security advice to those who own, operate, manage or work in shopping centers. It aids centres which are seeking to reduce the risk of a terrorist attack and limit the damage an attack might cause. It highlights the vital part you can play in the UK counter terrorism strategy. Terrorist attacks in the UK are a real and serious danger. Crowded places, including shopping centres, are likely to feature in the attack plans of terrorist organizations in the future; as they are usually locations with limited protective security measures and therefore afford the potential for mass fatalities and casualties. Counter Terrorism Protective Security Advice for Stadia and Arenas This report is written by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO), on behalf of ACPO (TAM) in 2006. This guide is intended to give protective security advice to those who are responsible for stadium and arena security, irrespective of size and capacity and is not specific to any particular sport or event. It is aimed at those stadia and arenas that are seeking to reduce the risk of a terrorist attack, or limit the damage terrorism might cause. It is accepted that there is no such concept as absolute safety or absolute security in combating the threat of terrorism but it is possible through the use of this guidance to reduce the risk to as low as reasonably practicable. Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) This is the web site for the United States defence research and development office for modeling and simulation. It lists its mission, projects, personnel, links to related web sites and a file library. How to do Business With the Norwegian Armed Forces This document is available on-line as well as in hard copy and is regularly updated. Icelandic Defence Forces The Icelandic Defence Forces homepage provides information about its command, under Rear Admiral John J. Waickwicz(United States Navy), plus its units, history and future. The United States entered into a defense agreement with Iceland in 1951 and this was the beginning of the Iceland Defense Force. There are more than 25 different commands of various sizes attached to IDF, with people from all branches of the U.S. Armed Services. International Military Ethics Symposium Formerly known as the Joint Services Conference on Professional Ethics, this is an annual conference held in late January every year which meets to discuss military ethics. Kit : UK Online This site provides information on equipment currently in use with the British Army. The site is divided into equipment, aircraft, armoured vehicles, artillery and air defence, BOWMAN, electronic battlefield, engineer equipment, individual equipment, landing craft and assault boats, logistics vehicles, NBC defence equipment, and small arms and support weapons. It provides brief information and specifications of the equipment and images. It is also possible to link to a website which provides 360 degree images of vehicles used by the British Army and their interiors. Kosovo : News, Background and Resources This site, provided by the UK Ministry of Defence and Foreign and Commonwealth Office, gives information about the 1998 conflict in Kosovo and deployments. Details are available about the background to the crisis, atrocities and diplomatic activities. There is also a map of the region, photo library and links to public statements. The archive provides briefings from Operation Allied Force and Operation Joint Guardian. Kosovo : Lessons from the Crisis This is the parliamentary report, Cm 4724, produced by the Secretary of State for Defence in June 2000, after the Kosovo crisis. It describes the background to the conflict, the operation itself, and lessons which can be learnt from it. It lists the units and assets involved and divides the operations into land, air and sea as well as giving an overall view. Ministerie van Defensie This website for the Dutch Ministry of Defence contains information on its central organisation, structure and the Minister of Defence and State Secretary of Defence. There are details about the Royal Netherlands Navy, the Royal Netherlands Army and the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Also available is information about the Royal Marechaussee- a police organisation with military status which, on the basis of legislative and administrative regulations, carries out its task for the benefit of society. Ministry of Defence : Operation TELIC : United Kingdom Military Operations in Iraq Produced by the National Audit Office, this is House of Commons Paper 60 (HC 60), Session 2003-2004 published on 11th December 2003. National Defense University : Institute for National Strategic Studies The INSS is a policy research and strategic gaming organisation within the National Defense University which serves the United States Department of Defense, its components, and interagency partners. NORAD : North American Aerospace Defence Command Formed in 1958, NORAD is a partnership between Canada and the United States to protect the American and Canadian airspace. There is also a multimedia section which contains images, sound files and film clips about NORAD missions. Office of Humanitarian Demining Programs This is the site of the former U.S. Department of Defense Humanitarian Demining Policy and forms a permanent archive of information prior to 20 January 2001 when the Bush Administration began. Office of the Chief of Naval Operations Expeditionary Warfare This site provides information about the United States Expeditionary Warfare Division. It has a fact file with details on surface ships, aircraft, armour, fire support, tracked vehicles and vehicles; a photo library; details on current operations; full text concept documents for both the Navy and Joint Forces; a press room with news articles, speeches and reports; and links to historical information. Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement Part of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, within the Department of State, the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement aims to curb the proliferation of conventional weapons such as light automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades, and removes and destroys landmines and abandoned stocks of munitions that pose hazards after the cessation of armed conflict. Operation Fringal Ministry of Defence site containing information on the first six months of operations during British leadership of Operation Fringal, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) which was put in place to assist the new Afghan Interim Authority with the provision of stability in Kabul. Royal Air Force Directorate of Legal Services This is the web site of the Directorate of Legal Services of the Royal Air Force (RAF)whose main function is to provide legal advice to RAF and military personnel. They also to act as prosecutors at courts martials and in the Standing Civilian Court. Review of the U.S. Department of Defense Air, Space, and Supporting Information Systems Science and Technology Program Written by the Committee on Review of the U.S. Department of Defense, Air and Space Systems Science and Technology Program, Department of Military Science and Technology, National Research Council. Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA) : Canada's Window on the Future This site is provided by the RMA Operational Working Group, National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
