Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) : Technical Information Office

This site provides access to the US AFRL library catalogue, databases, electronic journals, government technical reports, full text Department of Defense standards. There is a list of relevant links, the public access catalogue, literature search and material request forms, and information on library services. Some parts of this web site are restricted.


Australian Defence Force Academy Library

Major national collections include International Defence, Strategic Studies, and Military History. There are also major collections in Engineering and Australian Literature in the Library's holdings of approximately 393,000 volumes. There are current subscriptions to some 2947 periodical titles in print and to over 5000 electronic journals.


British Library Newspaper Library : British Military History Collections, 1801-1945

The BL Newspaper Library is the UK national archive for British and overseas newspapers. It holds copies of most local and national newspapers published in the British Isles for the period 1801-1945. The collections include specialist, non-newspaper publications of particular interest to military history researchers. The catalogue search link is at the bottom of the page. Holdings include: official military publications, long-standing armed services publications, shorter runs of war-time army and unit publications, general war-time periodicals, miscellaneous journals, magazines, and garrison and unit periodicals. There are also useful links to other organisations and resources for British military history research.


Caird Library

A part of the National Maritime Museum centre for research, the Caird Library is the largest maritime reference library in the world. It covers every aspect of maritime affairs in a variety of formats. The collection also includes manuscripts, charts and atlases, and pictures. It offers a research enquiry service direct to the staff, lists research guides and gives library opening times. The site provides access to the catalogues of the library, prints and drawings, and manuscripts sections. There also links to the picture library and other National Maritime Museum sites.


Churchill Papers

This site is the Churchill Papers catalogue website. It contains information on the Churchill Papers - the original documents sent and received by Sir Winston Churchill during his life. There is a biography of the life of Churchill covering his roles as soldier, politician and war leader during the Second World War and access to the online version of the catalogue of papers - it contains over 70,000 entries and enables the location of references to people, subjects or events. The papers are held at the Churchill Archives Centre where they can be consulted by appointment.


Dudley Knox Naval Postgraduate School Library

As well as providing a normal library catalogue the site provides access to resources including bibliographies, databases, electronic journals, NPS Publications, resources by curriculum, resources by topic, terrorism and terrorist group profiles. Through the library catalogue link there is a Hyperion Digital Archive containing the following full-text resources: conference proceedings, Congressional Research Service documents, Defense Science Board (DSB) reports, DoD documents, other government (non-DoD) documents, e-books, international organizations, joint publications, military handbooks, NPS theses, rare book collection e-texts and vision documents.


Imperial War Museum Collections On-Line

This site is a database of the IWM collections catalogue. The IWM's collections are based on twentieth century conflicts involving Britain, but the focus is towards the First World War and World War Two. Highlights of the collection can be browsed by selecting subjects on war on land, war at sea, war in the air, war and peace, prisoners, civilians, commonwealth, truth and propaganda, and burial and remembrance. Alternatively the records can be searched by collection (sound, film, or document) or all together. Each record contains a descritption of the document, film, sound file or image and in some cases they can be listened to or viewed online.


Marine Corps University Library

The MCU library is part of the Marine Corps Research Center's university, and provides information about the United States Marine Corps and other related areas. This site provides links to CDs and databases, journals and magazines, maps, microforms, news sources and online publications. Details are also available concerning bibliographies, sites of interest and the family library. It is also possible to search the library catalogue, the Military Educational Research Library Network (MERLN), the Government Printing Office (GPO) and other Department of Defense library catalogues.


MIPT Terrorism Bibliography

This site provides access to a searchable bibliography of references to terrorism. The list has been compiled by the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism. It includes books, journal articles, pamphlets and government publications, the majority of which have been published from the mid 1990s to the present day. The bibliography may be searched or browsed by subject. Most of the entries have annotations on subject content. All areas of terrorism are covered and topics include: the war against terrorism, the impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Al-Qaeda, Bin Laden, counter-terrorist actions, terrorism and nuclear weapons, and United States counter terrorist foreign policy.


Navy Department Library

The Naval Historical Center's department library contains collections of literature concerning the United States Navy. This site provides information about the physical library, its location, opening hours and contact information. It also provides a link to the virtual library, which has collections, publications and information on naval signals. It is also possible to search the library's online catalogue from this site.


Pentagon Library

The Pentagon Library site provides information about the physical building, plus online services. These include the library catalogue, online databases and reference sources. Certain databases are only available to Pentagon employees, but others include the periodical holdings list of the Pentagon Library, DTIC (Defense Technical Information Center), AUL (Index to Military Periodicals), GPO access (Government Printing Office), GAO reports (Government Accounting Office), Rand reports and ERIC. Details can also be found from bibliographies, briefing guides, pathfinders & quick lists. It is also possible to reach information about the US Army, Headquarters Department of the Army (HQDA) and the Information Management Support Center (IMCEN).


US Army ERDC Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory

CRREL is part of the Engineers Research and Development Center, ERDC, of the US Army Corps of Engineers. Through scientific engineering and research, their aim is to increase knowledge of the world's cold regions in order to help the Army, Corps of Engineers and the Department of Defense operate in these conditions. The site provides information about CRREL and gives details on research branches and their projects. There are full text technical reports from 1995, fact sheets on current research projects, and an online manual 'Methods Manual for Detection of Propellant, Explosive or Pyrotechnic Compounds'. There is also an ice jam and bibliography database as well as computer simulations of models. There is also access to the ERDC Library with access to the library catalogue, publications, cold regions bibliography and related links.
