Land Forces Annual Report to the President and the Congress 1998 Report by the Secretary of State of Defense, W.S. Cohen, on future US defense strategy, readiness, conventional and nuclear forces, information superiority, total force integration, the revolution in military affairs, acquisition reform and defense infrastructure. Annual Reports to the President and Congress Also known as the Annual Defense Report, this is the report by Secretary of Defense which details the Department's capabilities, and present and future US defence strategy. Full text annual reports are available from 1995 to the present year online. There are also details on how to order hard copies of the reports. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Site of the United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), which is responsible for training, mobilising, deploying and supporting forces capable of rapid response to military conflict, natural disasters and civil emergencies world-wide. The site also provides information about Atlanta,where FORSCOM is situated. Army Magazine Produced by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), this is a monthly magazine which focuses on the activities of the US Army worldwide. The site provides selected articles from the current issue and an archive of some articles to December 2000. It is also possible to subscribe to AUSA from this site in order to gain access to all the articles. Army.ca This is an unofficial Canadian Army website, which was created to provide information to past and present members of the military, military and civilian organizations, and anyone with an interest in Canada's Army. It provides information about the combat arms (artillery, armour, infantry, engineers), recruiting, rank insignia, battle honours and colours. Also provided is a junior officers' guide and other historical information. There are also several discussion forums and a photo gallery of weapons, vehicles, operations and humourous images. Command and General Staff College The Command and General Staff College (CGSC) educates leaders in the practice of the profession of arms, tactics and staff procedures. It acts as an agent for the Army's Leader Development Program, develops the doctrine that guides the Army, and promotes and supports the advancement of military art and science. The Directorate of Student Affairs provides information about the class of 2005, their schedule and transcript information. Details are also given of the schools and organisations at CGSC, which include the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff Officer's Course, Directorate of Nonresident Studies, School of Advanced Military Studies and the School for Command Preparation. Information is available about both resident and non- resident studies, plus resources and the library. External links are also provided to other military and related sites. Completing the Defence Transformation Process : The Transformation of the South African Reserve Force System Written by Rocklyn Williams, Head of the Programme on Security Sector Transformation, Institute for Security Studies, this is Occasional Paper number 54 in the ISS series. The Paper looks at the challenges likely to face South Africa's Reserve Forces in the future by examining both its internal institutional challenges and its role in the defence community as a whole. It also looks at how the creation of the Reserve Forces can contribute towards stabilising civil-military relations.

It is the central registration point for official US DoD web sites. It covers the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force as well as other DoD web sites and information sources. There is also a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) electronic reading room which contains links to documents and information on sources for further reading. The listings can be browsed or searched. Girl Soldiers : Challenging the Assumptions This is the full text pdf version of a paper written by Rachel Brett, published by the Quaker United Nations Office and published on 5th November 2002. It is based on a research report by Yvonne E. Keairns titled The Voice of Girl Child Soldiers which was published in October 2002 and identifies some of the key findings that raise policy issues. These include the forced recruitment and volunteering of girls; sexual abuse and exploitation; sense of self and time; why girls volunteer; benefits; the future for the girls; and substance abuse and addiction. Marine Corps University Library The MCU library is part of the Marine Corps Research Center's university, and provides information about the United States Marine Corps and other related areas. This site provides links to CDs and databases, journals and magazines, maps, microforms, news sources and online publications. Details are also available concerning bibliographies, sites of interest and the family library. Military Intelligence Corps Association (MICA) MICA is the professional association of the US Army's Military Intelligence Corps. This site provides a profile of MICA and its history, MICA officers, its constitution and scholarships. Personal and corporate membership details are available, along with information about the Knowlton Award. There is also an online gift shop and a link to Vanguard, the MICA quarterly newsletter. Military Technical Academy The Romanian Military Technical Academy trains engineer officers in technical specialties such as armament, missiles, aircraft, armour, electronics, computer systems, engineering and geodetics. This site provides information about the Academy and its educational process, events and admissions. Links are also provided to other Romanian resources and related sites. The site is also available in Romanian and French. Parameters Parameters is the US Army War College quarterly journal. Online editions are available from 1996, and the index of articles and review essays will retrieve earlier editions also. The site provides a book review index, subscription information, reprint requests and links to other related resources. There is also an author and reviewer guide, and details about writing for Parameters. Photovault Military Images This site provides a selection of military images relating to vehicles (air force, naval aviation, submarines, aircraft carriers, hovercraft), people (Army, Navy, Marines, Coastguard) and the environment (the results of nuclear explosions and military damage). PS Magazine PS Magazine, the Preventive Maintenance Monthly journal, for soldiers involved with unit maintenance and supply. There is the current edition of the magazine online in PDF format. There are also linked indexes of articles from 1990. It is also possible to subscribe and request back issues from the website. Soldiers Online Designed for United States Army personnel, this site provides the full text of Soldiers magazine available for download in pdf format. There is an archive to 1994 and a search facility. A link to the current Soldiers Almanac which provides facts and figures, details on uniforms, major army units, and the chain of command. Terre Information Magazine This is a monthly french language magazine for the French Army Land Forces. The site provides the full text and links to the Ministere de la Defense and other parts of the French armed forces. The Army Officers' professional ethic - past, present, and future The author investigates why, unlike many other professions, the US Army does not have a statement of professional responsibility. He discusses the history of military ethics in the officer corps arguing at the present time of operational stretch a clear statement of professional ethics could be regarded as necessary. The author discusses distinct roles: soldier, servant of the country, leader, and member of a respected profession. Towards a U.S. Army Officer Corps Strategy for Success: Retaining Talent The authors discuss poor retention of officers in the US Army. They argue that future planning and policy decisions are put at risk by the loss of talent. However the Army is not isolated from wider employment market forces and so it's retention strategy has to be basedon realistic market principles. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) USACE is responsible for U.S. military engineering, construction and environmental service. It also has civil works projects including navigation, flood-damage protection, hydro power and environmental regulation. The web site lists its mission, organisational structure, history, deployment, careers and information on its public and military services. There are news items, links to other relevant sites and the site is searchable. U.S. Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute The United States PSKOI studies the strategic and operational implications of peace and stability operations, in support of the senior leadership of the Army, the Army War College, and the combatant commanders. The Institute uses studies, conferences, simulations, operational support, instruction, exercises and gaming to achieve this. This site provides details of political, military and humanitarian operations. There are sections covering published works including After Action Reviews, Department of Defense Publications, bibliographies and recommended reading. Links are also provided to US Department of Defence and government, allied military and NATO, international organisations, NGOs and Institutes, academic journals and the media. U.S. Army Space and Missile Defence Command (USASMDC) The command group, including the U.S. Army Space Command (ARSPACE) is described here. It is responsible for national missile defence and theater missile defense (TMD). The site contains biographies of personnel, aquisition information for industry, news and briefing, and a 'family programmes' page. Some of the information on the operations site is restricted. U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) This is the home page for the U.S. Army training organisation. It has sections on the organisation, its key personnel, mission and vision, history, resources, command plan, a news service, and its position within the United States Army relative to other commands. There is information on the publications which the command produces, a link to the main Army homepage, and the site is searchable. UBIQUE: Artillery Links UBIQUE is the artillery worldwide links page, which hopes to bring together gunners from around the globe. This site provides news, a history of artillery, a guestbook and general information about artillery. Links are provided to US, Canadian and worldwide artillery units. US Army: Military Video Archive US Army's largest online video archive with clips from the Historical function's film/video archive. Voices of Girl Child Soldiers : Summary This is the full text pdf report written by Yvonne E. Keairns and published by the Quaker United Nations Office and the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers in October 2002. The report presents the results of a study which interviewed girl soldiers from four zones of conflict; Sri Lanka, Angola, Columbia, and the Philippines and policy lessons that can be learned. |
