Collections and archives AHDS Visual Arts This site provides access to Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS) Visual Arts, which is based at The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College, and aims to provide Internet access and preservation of visual arts digital resources to UK Higher and Further Education sectors. The database provides access to images of drawings and paintings from the Imperial War Museum Concise Art Collection, which contains works from Great War artists such as William Orpen, Stanley Spencer, Augustus John and John Singer Sargent. There is also access the Imperial War Museum Posters of Conflict and Spanish Civil War Poster Collections. In order to search and view the collections, it is necessary to register first which is free - all AHDS Visual Arts images are free for use in educational research, learning and teaching; permission must be obtained for any other use. Air University : Center for Space Studies The mission of this centre is to "promote and sponsor research and education on the employment of spacepower by creating and maintaining a depository and clearing house for space information and expertise". The site brings together links to information under several headings. These include teaching space, doctrine and policy, theory and research, force enhancement and application, space support and control, force development and space cadre. America's War on Terrorism This site is provided by the Federation of American Scientists, FAS. It provides resources to aid in the analysis of emerging security policy and counter terrorism doctrine which have been brought about as a result of the 11th September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The site is divided into five topic areas: anti terrorism and the arms trade; information security; strategy and weaponry; technology for training against terror; terrorism and WMD. Avalon Project : The Middle East 1916-2001 : A Documentary Record Part of the Avalon Project at Yale Law School, this site contains searchable, full text documents. This middle east section contains many documents relating to the middle east peace process including United Nations Security Council Resolutions and policies relating to Israel, Jordan and Palestine. Battle of Britain Royal Air Force Battle of Britain history site. Provides a complete official record of the four month battle. Features events of each day, official Fighter Command Daily Summaries and Fighter Command Operational Diaries. There is a roll of honour, details of aircraft used - some with video footage, and details of the commanders, units and stations involved. There is also a gallery of photographs taken from service archives. BBC History : World War One BBC site containing information and resources on the Great War, featuring articles and debates written by military historians. Features news articles written at the time, audio stories of soldiers diaries, letters and memories, an animated map of the Western Front, photographs and a 3-D virtual trench tour. Beyond Intractability Provided by the Conflict Research Consortium at the University of Colorado, this is the web site of the Intractable Conflict Knowledge Base Project which advertises itself as A Free Knowledge Base on More Constructive Approaches to Destructive Conflict. The site provides summary articles on topics that cover understanding conflict problems, and intervention processes and outcomes, as well as links to recommended resources such as web sites, interviews, news stories, books and articles, affiliated projects and conflict organisations. There are also case studies of real world conflicts; educational resources for students and teachers such as research tools and online courses; user guides and search tools. Britain's Small Wars This presents an overview of the conflicts involving Britain since 1945, including details of weapons and aircraft. Malaya, Kenya, Korea, the Gulf, the Falklands, Cyprus, Suez and Northern Ireland are all discussed. There is a web museum at the site including many first hand accounts of veterans and memorabilia from the wars. There is a chat room and a page containing details about books on the subjects and related reading. British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920 The database from Ancestry.co.uk contains the surviving service records of non-commissioned officers and other ranks who served in World War I but did not re-join the Army in the years before World War II. Information includes: name of solider, age, birthplace, occupation, marital status, and regiment number. The records originate from the War Office: Soldiers’ Documents, First World War ‘Burnt Documents’ (Microfilm Copies); (The National Archives Microfilm Publication WO363); Records created or inherited by the War Office, Armed Forces, Judge Advocate General, and related bodies and The National Archives of the UK. Canadian American Strategic Review Provided by Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, CASR provides information and a forum for discussion on Canadian defence policy, foreign policy and Canadian US relations. The site contains policy papers and articles on: defence budget and procurement practices; Canada US relations and military cooperation; coastal defence, maritime and port security; border patrol and homeland security; threat assessments and US foreign policy. There is also a DND 101 section which provides brief information and images of major land, air and naval forces equipment. Canadian Forces Image Gallery Linked from the Canadian Department of Defence home page, this site contains images of the Canadian Forces. The pictures provided are arranged under the four main headings of combat, army, air force and navy. The site is also available in French. CBC Archives : Conflict and War Provided by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation, this site provides access to radio and television clips from the CBC archives and links to further news stories and resources about the topics covered, for some subjects there are also educational activities for teachers. Subjects covered include the Rwandan genocide, World War Two, NATO, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, peacekeeping, Somalia, and the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Chinese Military Aviation This site focuses on weapon systems in use or being developed for the Chinese Armed Forces. It provides pictures and information about fighter aircraft, helicopters, war ships and submarines and provides links to related Chinese Military websites. Council for Canadian Security in the 21st Century The Council was established in 2001 with an aim to encourage the Canadian federal government to have a full defence review with a public consultation. The site contains full text reports and papers issued by the council and circulated in the media and the government. There are two main reports; Canadian Defence and Security in the 21st Century: To Secure a Nation: The Case for a New Defence White Paper, published in 2001 and The People's Defence Review. The site also contains research papers which cover subjects such as security policy, defence policy, arms control, research and development, and reserve forces. The site also contains articles, media coverage and reserves information. Country Assessments : Korean Peninsula Provided by the Institute for Science and International Security, ISIS, this site provides access to full text publications on North Korea, its nuclear programme and uranium enrichment from 1994 to the present. There are also satellite images and photographs of nuclear facilities. CRInfo : The Conflict Resolution Information Source Provided by the Conflict Research Consortium at the University of Colorado, CRInfo indexes peace and conflict resolution related web sites, books, articles, audiovisual materials, organisation profiles, events, and current news items. The site can be searched or browsed using the topic lists which include; understanding conflict, types of conflict, alternative dispute resolution, peace processes and book and article summaries. There is also an education, training and networking section which provides tutorials, online training materials and educational guides. There is also a list of recommended resources and links to further projects, gateways and affiliates. Defence Digital Media Gallery Provided by the Australian Minister of Defence, this site provides images of Australian Defence Ministers, Army, Navy, Royal Air Force, operations and equipment. The site is searchable and browseable by keyword. Defence Image Database This site combines the picture libraries of the British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence. It covers equipment, crests and logos, cap badges, people and operations and can be browsed or searched. The service is free but images are subject to Crown copyright so they may be downloaded for the purposes of non-commercial research and private study only. Defence of Britain Database The Defence of Britain Database is an archive of photographs and also includes detailed location and descriptive information relating to British military anti-invasion sites created during the Second World War. The main emphasis is on Home Front defences including military watch towers and garrisons constructed during the 1940-41 Battle of Britain period. The database has been funded by the Heritage Lottery and created by the Council for British Archaeology. The database has records for over 20,000 military sites. The database is searchable or can be browsed by geographical location or type of site. Entries focus on archaeological details. The database is accessible via the Archaeology Data Service. Defense Strategy Review Page Sponsored by the Project on Defense Alternatives, this site provides access to full text articles, reports, defence policies and analysis on the United States' defence reviews and national security strategy. It covers topics such as the Quadrennial Defense Review, military transformation and homeland security and provides links to useful websites on these subjects. Digital Library of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Theses This site is provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Libraries and Document Services and MIT Information Systems. The site provides access to the full text of a selection of MIT masters and doctoral theses from 1888 to the present. It is not a complete collection but details of all MIT theses can be accessed via the Barton catalogue and ordered online. Directorate of History and Heritage This site provides access to the Canadian National Defence Directorate of History and Heritage (DHH) whose mission is to develop and provide Canadian military and forces history, traditions, music and museums. The web site provides information on the DHH including its duties and organisational structure. The site is divided into sections covering: history and archives, which contains the historical resources centre and Canadian military history dates; heritage and tradition which provides access to the National Inventory of Canadian Military Memorials; honours and awards; Canadian Forces museums; Canadian Forces music; and publications. French and English language versions of the site are available. Eldis : Conflict and Security Resource Guide This site is a resource guide from Eldis, a gateway to development information provided by the Institute of Development Studies in Sussex and funded by Sida, Norad, SDC and DFID. It provides access to online full text documents in the areas of global security, complex emergencies, post conflict reconstruction, refugees and forced migration, pastoralism and conflict, gender and conflict and business and conflict. It also provides the latest news headlines in these areas and a news feed service. The site links to the rest of the Eldis gateway and further full text documents, resource guides and country profiles.
no title available no description supplied Encyclopedia of the Tanks of World War II An enthusiast site containing details of tanks and armoured vehicles that served in World War Two. It is possible to view tanks in chronological order of being made (from 1917 - 1945), or to compare tanks using a split screen which gives summary details of technical data. There is also more detailed information and pictures of each vehicle provided. Information can also be accessed on vehicles produced by country, these include France, Britain, Russia, America, Germany, Italy and Spain. The site is also available in French. End Terrorism Forum Archive Established by the Global Learning Group The End Terrorism Forum was established in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Its purpose was to discuss the security lessons learned, and means of avoiding future terrorism worldwide. The archive contains around 70 messages posted between September and December 2001. They provide an interesting insight into initial reaction to the outrage to the event and discussion of the role of the media and educational initiatives in reducing future terrorist threats. Field Manuals The General Dennis J. Reimer Training and Doctrine Digital Library provides full text descriptions of 468 US Army Field Manuals, including summary information, document number and title. Field Manuals contain doctrine and training principles with supporting tactics, techniques, and/or procedures and describe how the Army and its organizations function in terms of missions, organizations, personnel, and equipment. Field Manuals implement ratified international standardization agreements and may also contain informational or reference material relative to military operations and training and may be used to publish select alliance doctrinal publications that are not readily integrated into other doctrinal literature. Each Field Manual is accessed via a contents page, and some are restricted and encrypted. It is also possible to reach the General Dennis J. Reimer Training and Doctrine Digital Library homepage, and other documents which it provides. First World War.com The aim of this site is to provide an overview of the First World War. It details how World War One began, and provides summaries of the battles, a timeline of events, a biogrpahy of major politicians, royalty and commanders involved and details the weapons used and aircraft involved in the air wars. The site also features an encyclopaedia, archives of sound and video recordings, propaganda posters, memoirs and diaries and primary documents which include official government material. Foreign and Security Policy Personal web site provided by Tim Garden, formerly the Director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, and currently a visiting professor at the Centre for Defence Studies at King's College London - he has written widely on security issues. The site provides the full text of his writings in the form of articles, reviews, books and lectures on international security, foreign policy and global politics. The site also provides links to government and official sources of Foreign and Security Policy, relevant institutes and non-government organisations involved in this area, Departments of Foreign Affairs and UK Political Parties. There are also links to news sites, European Union information, further sites of interest and a biography. Government Views of Iraq Provided by Grace-Ellen McCrann, Chief Government Documents Division, City College of New York. This site contains cross-referenced links to online primary resources about Iraq. The site covers the history of conflict in Iraq, providing links on the Gulf War, the Iran-Iraq War and the 2003 War, U.N. Resolutions, Geneva Conventions and international treaties. The focus of the site is US Government documents and information including Congressional Hearings, Federal Agency reports, press conferences, legislation, Presidential communications and USAID fact sheets. India and Pakistan on the Brink? This web site contains links to full text documents on India, Pakistan and the conflict from 1842 to the current day. It includes news features, UN resolutions, treaties and agreements as well as maps, travel guides and political resources. It is provided by Historyteacher.net - please note this site hasn't been regularly updated so not all links will work. There are also links to the Arab-Israeli conflict and the war in Afghanistan. India-Pakistan A History of Conflict This interactive web site is provided by CTV (Canada TV) News. It includes a timeline on the history of the conflict from 1947 to 2002. It has maps which explain why Kashmir is disputed, illustrates the line of control, military power in Kashmir and nuclear war. The key players links to profiles of the Pakistani President and the Indian Prime Minister. There are links to the CIA World Factbooks, the governments of India and Pakistan and to the Center For Defence Information. There are also links to several related articles of interest. Internet for Aeronautical Engineering Produced by information specialists at Cranfield University, this is part of the Intute Virtual Training Suite (VTS), an initiative designed to teach Internet information skills to the UK Higher Education community. However, the free tutorial is potentially useful to everybody who wishes to improve their subject knowledge of aerospace and defence on the Internet. It takes the form of a "teach yourself" tutorial and includes quizzes and exercises for learners to test their knowledge. It has four main components - a 'Tour' of useful high quality Web sites, 'Discover' gives tips on how to improve searching skills, 'Judge' emphasises the need for critical evaluation of information on the Internet and 'Success' offers practical examples of people using the Internet successfully. Iraq Intelligence? This BBC site provides access to a transcript of an interview with Hans Blix, former UN weapons Inspector in Iraq. It was an interview conducted by Sir David Frost and transmitted on Breakfast with Frost on 8th February 2004. It discusses Mr Blix's opinion on whether weapons of mass destruction were held by Saddam Hussein in Iraq prior to the 2003 war. Library and Archives Canada : War and Military This site provides resources on the Canadian military and wars involving Canada. It contains online research tools which allow the searching of digital collections online such as the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) database which contains personnel files of those who enlisted during the First World War. There is also a searchable database of Canadian soldiers of the South African (Boer) War and digital war diaries of the CEF from World War One. There are also virtual exhibitions which provide selected Library and Archive Canada materials which include audio and video files. There are also research aids to assist in finding relevant resources. The site is also available in French.

Naval Open Source Intelligence This site provides the latest world naval operational news and also an archive of news stories back to January 2000, there is also a summary of the major news headlines for each year under the Naval Year in Review section. It also contains a section titled Reading List/Curriculum which contains pertinent articles and resources divided by subject area, links to online courses in relevant subjects and a listing of relevant naval links. Naval-History.Net This site focuses on British naval history especially that during the first World War, second World War and the Falklands War. There is a timeline of battles, descriptions of the main campaigns, statistics on military losses, details of individual warships and weapons in use. There are also bibliographies for further reading. The site is maintained by military history enthusiast Gordon Smith. NavyTimes.Com This is a weekly US publication dealing with issues of interest to those serving in the navy and their families. The hard copy and the e-journal are available by subscription(on-line). Full text articles and archives are only for subscribers, but abstracts and indexes are freely available. Subjects include legal advice, financial advice including pay, health and job-seeking. NDU Press Provided by the National Defense University Institute for National Strategic Studies, NDU INSS, this site provides access to full text NDU Press publications. These include the journal Joint Force Quarterly; books; McNair Papers, Occasional Papers; Strategic Assessments; translated publications; and Annual Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Strategic Essay Contest winners. Subjects covered by the publications include national security strategy, defence policy, national military strategy, regional security affairs, and global strategic problems. The site can be browsed and there are also pdf subject and author indexes. North Korea Special Weapons Guide Provided by the Federation of American Scientists, this is a comprehensive guide to North Korea's weapons of mass destruction. There is information and specifications on its ballistic missiles; nuclear, biological and chemical weapons programmes; details and locations of special weapons facilities; military doctrine and defence policy of the DPRK; and details of the organisation of special weapons agencies. There are also links to the sources and resources that the information within the web site came from. Online Exhibits at the Archives of Ontario This site provides a list of online exhibitions at the Archives of Ontario and links to them. The exhibitions include: Canadian posters from the First World War; the Home Front which looks at Ontario-based regiments' participation in the D-Day landings at Normandy; the War of 1812; the American Civil War and Fenian Raids in the 1860s; World War One war artists; children's art from the Spanish Civil War; and Canadian war heroes. French and english language versions of the site are available. Operation Veritas Ministry of Defence site providing information on Operation Veritas, the British Forces' contribution to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan which ran from 7th October 2001 to 31st July 2002. It contains information on operations conducted by 45 commando group which included Operation Ptarmigan, Operation Snipe, Operation Condor and Operation Buzzard. Photovault Military Images This site provides a selection of military images relating to vehicles (air force, naval aviation, submarines, aircraft carriers, hovercraft), people (Army, Navy, Marines, Coastguard) and the environment (the results of nuclear explosions and military damage). Political Issues: Defense This site provides links to articles from The Atlantic Monthly magazine, which relate to defense. There are also related links to the Center for Defense Information (CDI), Nuclear Proliferation News and the Department of Energy's Defense Program Homepage. PrePRINT Network : Department of Energy This service is a searchable gateway to preprint servers provided by the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). It is possible to search one site, a group of sites, or all the sites, or to browse an alphabetical listing of all preprint sites included on the service. An additional feature notifies individuals of new preprints that match a personally defined profile of subject interests. Subject areas covered include physics, mathematics, computer science, nonlinear sciences, engineering, and materials science. Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research Publications This site provides access to full text documents from the HPCR; an international policy and research programme based at the Harvard School of Public Health which provides research on humanitarian affairs in particular in the areas of human security, conflict management, and international humanitarian law. Publications include an occassional paper series, legal and policy briefs, background and working papers, journal articles and conference reports. Robert M Gates, Secretary of Defense Nominee : A Bibliography Provided by Georgetown University Law Library, this site contains a bibliography of documents about and authored by Robert M. Gates, who was nominated by US President, George W. Bush, as Secretary of Defense on 8th November 2006. It contains confirmation and nomination documents, and details of books, reports and articles written by Mr Gates. Royal Navy Community Web Site : Reference Library This site provides access to Royal Navy documents and publications including: personnel publications; Royal Navy Leadership in the Office booklet; Navy List; Broadsheet; videos; and future navy publications such as the Naval Strategic Plan, Littoral Manoeuvre Concept, Future Navy Paper, and Future Maritime Operational Concept. There is also access to full text Personnel Support Briefs which reflect the latest updates on concerns and issues that will impact on Naval Service personnel and their families and cover subjects such as pay, promotion, careers, service law, operational and uniform clothing, courts martial and honours. Saddam Hussein Sourcebook: Declassified Secrets From US-Iraq Relations This site provides access to a collection of declassified US government documents relating to Saddam Hussein. These have been gathered together by the National Security Archive. They include some letters, reports and photographs relating to US-Iraq relations, American foreign policy towards Iraq, 'operation desert Storm', the Gulf War, the 2003 Iraq war and the hunt for weapons of mass destruction. There are links to the National Security Archive and its documents. September 11 and the War on Terrorism This web site is provided by King's College London, and contains briefings and papers written by academics from the Department of War Studies, the Defence Studies Department and the International Policy Institute. Topics covered include religious extremist terrorism, the Axis of Evil, international politics, the war on terror and the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The site also links to BBC News and BBCi History sites on September 11. September 11 Digital Archive This site was created by the American Social History Project / Center for Media and Learning at the City University of New York Graduate Center and the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. It is an electronic media archive of the history of the 11th September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. It contains first hand accounts from eyewitnesses of the attacks and the aftermath; still images, artworks, photographs and digital art related to the attacks; moving images and video clips of events; audio clips; documents which includes flyers, reports, and interviews; and a portal to online resources and websites. Skyline Aviation Photo Agency : Peter Steinemann's Military Aviation Images Peter Steinemann's Photo Gallery. Includes Mixed Formation Photography, Close Formation Flying and air to air photography of jets, props and helicopters in a wide variety of flying manoeuvres. Sources on US Naval History in the United States This is an online directory of archive collections relating to American naval history. It was compiled in 2002 by the Naval Historical Center and entries are arranged alphabetically by state. They include holdings of private papers, manuscripts, archives and government document depositories. All aspects of naval history from colonial times to the present day are included. Spanish Civil War Factbook This is a site maintained by a military history enthusiast. It gives access to factual information about the history of the Spanish Civil War. There is information on air war including aircraft used; and information on foreign support as well as a chronology of events. There is also a glossary, bibliography and links. STARnet : The NATO Science, Technology and Research Network This web site is being developed by the NATO Research and Technology Agency (RTA) Information Management Committee (IMC) and provides access to a virtual library of information. The site is divided into defence related subject nodes which provide access to organisational web sites and Internet based resources within the subject area. The nodes are: Aerospace and Aerospace Related Information Network (ARIN); Defence Against Terrorism Information Node (DTIN); Environmental and Biological Sciences Information Node (EBSIN); Information Science Information Node (INSCIN); Land Based Operations Node (LBON); Naval Marine and Sea Node (NAMAS); and the Resource Planning Node (RESPLAN). Strategic Studies Institute of the US Army War College The SSI is the United States Army's institute for geostrategic and national security research and analysis, which supports the US Army War College curricula, provides analysis for Army and Department of Defense leadership, and interacts with the wider strategic community. Terrorism Watch - Third World Traveler Third world Traveler aim is to post on the Internet excerpts of books and articles that challenge the viewpoint of corporate America about US foreign policy. These links are divided into subject areas, which include genocide, non- Jews in the Holocaust, homosexuals in the Holocaust and gypsies in the Holocaust. There are also links to the related subjects of prisoners of war and war crimes. The National Security Archive, George Washington University This is a research institute in international affairs, a library and archive of declassified US documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act(FOIA) and an indexer and publisher. It is privately funded by publishing revenues and donations. There is a guide for researchers who either want to use the site or the archive itself, and information about publications and documents held in the archive. Current research projects are listed and include China, India-Pakistan, Iran, and Openness in Russia and Eastern Europe. Trafalgar to Korea : Five British Battles, 1805 to 1951 This site is part of the Public Record Office's Pathways to the Past adult learning section of the National Archives. It uses text, images of original documents, transcripts, maps and pictures to provide information on five battles involving Britain over a span of 150 years. The battles covered are Trafalgar during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War 1854, Egypt and the Suez Canal 1882, D-Day during World War Two, and the Korean War 1951. There is also a section titled Ancestors in the Military that has information on how to find records on people who served in the British Forces. Trenches on the Web : Reference Library Detailed site containing information about World War One. Features includes a timeline; biographies of leaders; essays submitted by historians and students; maps of the regions, battles and theatres of operation; a photograph archive featuring pictures and information on equipment, Gallipoli, the Somme and Ypres. U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Image Archive Includes images of projects, satellites, and logos and patches of the AFRL. Site links to the AFRL Headquarters and further information about AFRL organisations and technology transfer. United States Air Force Electronic Publications : Doctrine Documents This is part of the United States Air Force Publishing web site. It provides access to electronic copies of Air Force doctrine documents. These include amongst others: AFDD 1 - Air Force basic doctrine; AFDD2-1 - Air Warfare; AFDD2-1.7 - Airspace Control in the Combat Zone; and AFDD2-2 - Space Operations. These documents can be accessed online in full text (PDF format). Further details including bibliographic information and a short summary can also be viewed online (HTML format). Urban Operations Journal Maintained by Dave Dilegge, a former urban operations analyst for the United States Marine Corps, the site provides information on urban military operations. The site contains full text documents relating to Military Operations on Urbanised Terrain (MOUT) doctrine and Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTP). There is also documentation on current and future technologies, links to sites on operations in different countries, an image library and glossary. US Air Force Publishing This site is the official source for US Air Force administative publications and forms. It is necessary to open an account in order to order and view publications. These can be found by using either the Master Catalog or by using a quick search option. Copies of forms are available for downloading, in addition to doctrine documents, mission directives, recurring periodicals, and indexes. US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer and Research Development Center (ERDC) Virtual Library This site provides the full text of publications of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. They cover a wide range of subjects including military engineering, construction and environmental issues. It also provides details of useful internet links, contact details for the library, and publications of the USACE, Civil Works Guidance Documents and the Handbook of Concrete and Cement. US Army: Military Video Archive US Army's largest online video archive with clips from the Historical function's film/video archive. Veterans This site provides links to websites covering military veterans. Links include those to veterans agencies, organisations and associations. Retiree affairs are also covered on this site. Subject areas include veterans from World War Two, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Gulf War. Both US and non- US veterans are covered. War Crimes This site provides links to information concerning war crimes in different countries around the world. These include Nazi Germany, Vietnam, Bosnia and Cambodia. They are arranged in sections by country. There are also links to related sites on the Holocaust, prisoners of war and the rest of the Rongstad site. War Times Journal This is an electronic journal which covers all periods of military history and military science. It contains an archive of orders and dispatches, eyewitness accounts, a photo gallery and memoirs. The articles section has information on battles and people, tactics and doctrine, and overviews of wars. There is also a portal which provides subject listed links to other internet sites. The war section contains resources on World War One and World War Two, the American Civil War, Napoleonic Wars and the Pre Dreadnought naval period. There is also a war gaming section and shop. Witness to the Holocaust This web site is maintained by Georgia Tech Library. It provides free Internet access to a collection of photographic images of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps in Europe at the end of the Second World War and eye witness testimonies. The materials are based on that collected by the Fred Roberts Crawford Project held at Emory University. They include a background history of the Jewish Holocaust and the liberation of Belsen, Dachau and Buchenwald. The site includes bibliographies of further readings for students. Please note that the nature of the subject matter means that some images are graphic and potentially shocking. World War One Document Archive This site has been put together by volunteers of the World War I Military History List. It contains the full text and extracts of conventions, treaties and official papers and also lists documents by year from 1914. The documents are transcripts of letters, declarations, treaties and articles. There is also a section containing personal reminiscences in the form of letters, diaries, cartoons and poems; a biographical dictionary of prominent people of the Great War era; an image archive; sections on medical aspects of the war, the war at sea, and links to further resources. |
