Over 200 Senior Defence Logisticians To Gather For The Definitive Global Defence Logistics Conference

Over 200 senior defence logisticians from 16 different nations from around the globe will gather in Brussels between Jan 28th - 30th 2003 for the 3rd annual Pan-NATO Defence Logistics conference.

Global military logistics methods and functionality are going through major changes with the need for a more progressive and efficient logistical solution ever increasing. Increased need for warehousing, non-cooperative multinational operability, dysfunctional IT solutions and issues like non-integrated logistics support are severely costing the global defence community.

Highlights of the conference include a Technology, Software & Data Management focus day where current issues will be debated with key presentations from senior IT logisticians from the defence industry. In research recently undertaken for the conference, 78% of senior military and industry logisticians cited this area as being the biggest challenge/concern for them, focusing specifically on technology and software concerns.

One of the major issues looks at Whole Fleet Management, having full recognition of the military faculties you maintain and the logistics needed to implement them. Paul James, the Director of Whole Fleet Management, MoD UK, will be assessing the importance of this concept by relaying the means with which one can leverage its benefits into everyday defence logistics solutions.

In addition, there will be an analysis of multinational operations. The effectiveness of each nation in reaction to future war depends on the potential for synergies to be formed. Defence Logistics 2003 will provide important case studies from various countries that have recently improved the logistics of their multinational operations. In particular, Richard Froh, Head of Land Armaments Section, NATO, will deliver one of these key presentations.

Throughout all 3 days, Defence Logistics 2003 will convey all that delegates need to know about the ever-increasing role that industry has and will have to play in military operations of the future. Organisations like BAE-SYSTEMS, Accenture, IBM and BAE-SYSTEMS IFS along with leading logisticians from these organisations will analyse the key success factors behind such worldwide "industefence" coalitions.

Another key area addresses the issue of crisis reaction operations. Due to the political, economic and time constraints imposed by neighbouring countries of the area of attack, the need to execute the operations at optimum speed and fluidity is all important. It is for this reason that "joint sea based" operations are the way forward and Commander Jeremy Rigby is a leading mind on this concept within the Maritime Warfare Centre, MoD UK. He will be delivering the definitive presentation on this unique subject.

Increasingly, with the evolving nature of warfare, comes the challenging methodology needed to provide support for our soldiers. One of the essential ways to assure that this support is delivered and sustained is to have an integrated support system. Defence Logistics 2003 will build on the success of last year's "ILS focus day" by delivering presentations covering all one needs to know about this important area. Colonel Jaap Reijling, Senior Advisor, Logistics Policy, MoD Netherlands will be presenting on this key topic area and he is just one of the 50+ international speakers we will have at this definitive event.
